SO overall I liked it I felt like everyone was a bit ooc but it was overall a really fun watch!!!!!!!I watched it with my irl friend when it first came out and it was awesome
on things I didnt like:
-Dave felt out of character, he was a bit TOO chalant ( I think dave is a bit chalant but not as chalant as they made him out to be)
-no non chibi jade section, I wished for a section where she takes up like half the screen like with rose and dave
Things that im kinda meh on:
-cursing - i know it bothered alot of people but it wasnt really that big of a deal for me personally
-johndave - I feel like Hussies pushing more yaoi because he KNOWS that it makes people love yaoi and it makes people join fandoms (example: i had a camp counsiler who knew davekat but nothing about the rest of homestuck) (disclaimer i like johndave and i am not dogging on it i just have mixed feelings)
CONCLUSION
I really enjoyed it and I hope it gets a fully animated series!! I like the edits of the trolls that use their 4 frames each (specifically when its one character)
I fear hussie is only making it because hes out of money again
I think they should have had everyone sing because that would have been super funny

I may make a buliten/blog post about the musical because it has its good parts and its bad parts

I think as a pilot it kind of rushed through everything in order to try and show itself off? I've heard tell that there's been confirmation that if it turns into a full series they'll start again from the top, and I think that would be the best possible thing for this. I'm not sure what to think of it right now, and it's mostly because the pacing was just really, really rushed.
I will say, some stuff I really, really liked:
- Alllll the voice acting. We can joke about Toby reprising his role as John all we want but all the VAs really really nailed it.
- The way the sylladex was incorporated into the animation. It's all super smooth, and I think the sylladex shenanigans that are so integral to Act 1 would be really entertaining with a little more time to focus on them.
- Switching from text messaging to phone conversations for the sake of the medium, it just works and honestly the kids use pesterchum more like a phone sometimes anyways
- Like, the entire art style
I'm not gonna get super invested in it just yet, there are definitely things I hope they'd do differently for the full series, but so far it's looking pretty cool
I think it's also super important to note that Karkat is obviously the main character and I think that's very cool and appropriate

I agree! it is kind of hard to understand if you have no idea what is happening in homestuck but i am glad you ar egiving it a chance! I hope they greenlight it because a whole animated series would be amazing!
It is really rushed, but I think that is because they had to squish everything into an 11 minute pilot and they wanted to have all the main human characters introduced
I liked the sylladex part alot too and I am also really happy with the animation
Also your thing about karkat is pretty correct, hes kind of the main character of the trolls and is the first one to be introduced!
I also agree on your point about the text chat being switched to video chat!!! it really works! I see some people complaining but unironically what did they want?? for john egbert to make a shocked expression or nod as audio of his friends talking play??

The comic doesnt make alot of sense either i am going to be real with you so you are probably in the same boat as someone reading homestuck for the first time
