Hi, today I wanna talk about my (recently found) passion for watches. I never actually wore watches until January of this year. I wore a smartwatch, but that’s about it.
It all started at the end of 2024. I was at the train station and for some reason I thought, “Hmm, what time is it?” and instinctively looked at my wrist, only to realize there was nothing on it. Since I had a guy talk to me about his own passion for watches while we were waiting for our train, I thought, “I should get one, maybe.” And then I just went on with my life.
Some time passed and I started doing some research, since I basically knew nothing about watches. I discovered there are two main types: quartz, which are newer and more precise, and mechanical, which are more traditional. Mechanical watches are a bit less precise (especially in the lower price bracket), but they have a lot more soul since it’s all gears and moving parts, while quartz is basically an electrical circuit.
So I dug deeper, read articles, watched tons of YouTube videos, and finally started looking for my very first watch. While researching, I grew more passionate and interested with each passing day, and after at least a month of digging I finally bought my first watch in January 2025: a Casio, the famous Japanese brand known for its reliability and relatively low price.
The exact model is an MTP-B145D in a dark blue colorway. A fairly modest watch under 100 euros, but still very beautiful. A quartz watch, of course, since mechanical ones are pricier (you can usually find them starting around 200+ euros). Anyway, when I finally got my hands on that watch I was so happy, and started wearing it every single day.
But like many other people with this passion can testify: there’s always another watch, and another, and another. So a few months later, in August 2025, I decided to get another one. This time a diver watch, made for (of course) divers to take with them into the sea. It’s the cheapest diver you can find at around 80 euros, but still very cool and beloved by enthusiasts (even Bill Gates has been spotted wearing it on camera multiple times).
I’m talking about the Casio MDV-106, also known as the “Duro.” This watch is simply amazing, especially when you think about the price. It can withstand up to 200 meters (656 feet for Americans) of depth, the hands are gorgeous with that arrow-and-sword style, and the black-and-white colorway is just stunning.
So yeah, I don't know where this passion will take me (probably to bankruptcy lol) but I know one thing, It's my birthday in two months, and I'm searching for another watch!
Thank you for reading all of this and see you next time on another blog post ^^

was engaging in my hobby of scrolling through popular blog posts to find people who suck to preemptively block and stumble upon this actual breath of fresh air in blog form

I hear seiko is a good brand! I used to have a casio watch that I got off Amazon for cheap and I really liked it LOL I've been thinking about getting back into wristwatches part for the aesthetic and part to reduce smartphone usage XP

So cool, you make it sound so interesting, I might start buying some.
Currently I have 2 watches.
The first is some cheap watch, it's not very good nor is it interesting.
The second is a "swatch" watch, it was a gift from my uncle, it's white and black and has a really unique artsy design (I don't know it's name, I tried searching for it on the Internet, but no luck so far).
lol just as I wrote this comment I found it.
