Why is film so expensive ;M;

Trying to do film photography in Australia is such a pain cause what do you mean film costs 24 dollars and developing costs 20 bucks qwq, black and white is worse cause its 20 bucks a roll, but 30 bucks to develop and my local lab only develops on Wednesday (don't even get me started on slide film)
