My first ty on writing this got nooked when I tried to post it so here's my try to rewrite it ಥ_ಥ
Anyway, finally finished reading this book after stalling for 5 months
You know that feeling when a book is too good so you need to put it down and digest? Well, after finishing Gideon the Ninth (which took me 2 days) I tried brute forcing through that feeling, and trying to read HtN too fast while not letting it digest properly - hence reading HtN for 5 months
I'd read a few chapters, be crushed by grief and have to put it down; that was until act 5, where everything was set into motion, that I couldn't put the book down anymore (and also, I was waiting for hours on end at my uni and needed to kill time somehow)
spoilers:
-Big god tier/regular homestuck vibes from a lot of powers in the book (some of my guesses: Ortus the "bring ghost of my favorite historical figure to life through the power of reciting my shitty fanfiction poems" gives page of hope, Mercy is so a life player and Augustine has to be space (teleporting people to hell's door as a last ditch effort to kill God is very much that) Pent and ghosts is serving Aradia, but so is lady Septimus being described as a fairy obsessed with death)
-I'm so interested in what happens to a person who gets sent to superhell with their body, not just soul, and will Augustine find that one missing lyctor who got sucked into the Stoma (also, I've heard a theory that he has Mercy's soul, so he might have become a double lyctor, by committing soul cannibalism adept on adept; which would technically make him run on 3 souls plus his own??)
-What did Augustine scream to Ianthe during his duel with John, and did she really just think it's better to side with John or is she playing the long game?(edit: after thinking some more, she probably did it for her sister, since if John died Ianthe would be risking her sister being dead too)
-WHERE IS SILAS OCTAKISERON'S SOUL AND IS HE GONNA BE ABLE TO FIND COLUM?! frankly, I had a whole paragraph written up for this part, but I'm to lazy to write it all again, so I'll just say: souls in the river go mad, he went to find his nephew there, mayo 16 year old child pope is going on a: there is no God, and if there is he's an asshole arc; next time we see him he's gonna be covered in blood or smth
-Not Gideon foreshadowing that we're gonna see Babs with Ianthe's eyes at some point??? All I know is that he is going to be back in some way, shape or form and it's gonna have something to do with the end of Tridentari or Cain/Abel story; he wasn't named after a prince of hell for nothing
-JudithxCorona and JudithxCamilla at the end of the book?!?! (also, Judith's entries are soooo dramatic lmaooo)
