Yesterday I watched Hachiko. Ya know, that one dog that waited for his owner for nine years, until he died himself? Yeah. I googled for exactly how long he did wait. 9 years, 9 months and 15 days? That's a lot longer than i thought. And imagine, how long those days must've dragged oooon. Just sitting there, waiting, doing nothing, waiting for nothing. Thinking that the one you love the most will return one day, until you slowly realize, that they aren't coming back, ever. Maybe Hachiko did realize that his owner wasn't coming back, but still decided to wait. Maybe it made him feel better, sitting at the same spot every day. Or maybe he did believe that his owner was gonna come back at any moment, that his best friend would return. They would walk home together, have dinner, and then go to sleep. And then in the morning, it would all repeat. I don't think that's it. He knew he was gone.
This was a true story btw. The fact that it's based on truth, makes it even worse. Like, 10 times WORSE. This isn't the first time I've seen this movie, maybe the 3rd time, but that doesn't make it any less sad. I still cry everytime i see that sad ass, dirty ass dog sitting, just waiting in the snow. I SOB EVERYTIME LIKE AAAHUGGGh. I'm not even a dog person, I'd pick cats anyday, but It's not weird to feel bad for a dog, or any animal. No animal deserves to be in a situation like that.
The fact that Hachiko was determined to wait for over 9 years was astonishing, and I'm so glad that even made a statue in his honer. In case you didn't know, they made a statue of Hachiko in Japan, Tokyo, Shibuya, right outside Shibuya station, sometime ago, commemorating an Akita, named Hachiko. I once even wrote down directions on how to get there from Sweden, so maybe I'll visit it in the future. The statue itself represents loyalty, which Hachiko was. I mean, I don't think a lot of dogs would wait for 9 years for their owners to return. The spot is very well known, especially by tourists that visit to take fun pictures. That is definitely something I'm also gonna do if i ever visit Japan.
I'm not usually a fan of sad things, I'm more into dark stories or unsolved mysteries, something fascinating like that. But Hachiko's story just took my breath away, in a way. I just find it so incredible that a mere dog could possess so much loyalty, even if it came to a sad end. I hope Hachiko got to see his owner once he finally passed. I can just imagine how happy he would get.
Remember, all dogs go to heaven... XOXO
