finch marriage yap

dennis quimby finch you are a wonder. i absolutely hated this arc. this arc made me groan every time finch showed up on screen and made me begin to dislike him as a character. they absolutely botched him. i understand that him living for his wife and no one else is incredibly in character, but we went six episodes without a single non-adrienne scene for finch. thats insane!! thats way too long!!

up until his marriage arc, finch was easily the best character in this show. he had a surprising amount of depth and i absolutely loved watching him get up to bullshit. pass the salt and miss pretty will always be two of my favorite episodes of this show, with the nina sees red duology and toy story get an honorable mention. finch became a character that felt real, a distinct seperation from the one note person he was in season 1 and early season 2. then the odd couple duology came out. and we went six full episodes without seeing anything that seperated finch from adrienne. and when we did get the episode where finch didn't mention his wife!! once!! (though i know it was post-marriage because finch wore his ring) it was one episode before three more in a row about finch and adrienne.

if it had been written differently, i'm sure i would have loved this arc. it is very real for finch and provided some really genuine moments that i enjoyed. highlight episodes in this arc were blackmail photographer, finch gets d, and hello goodbye. i did also like his moments in an axe to grind as well. this was insanely believable for finch and didnt seem out of character, but i simply cannot enjoy this arc because of how they wrote it. it was all jammed together, coursing not even a season. it started s3e24, and ended s4e9. that is 11 episodes, with only a handful truly centering around finch and adrienne. it felt unnatural in the world of jsm and it just made me feel weird.

again, this arc made finch become a character i began to dislike. for the first time i was considering bumping elliot to my favorite, sliding finch down to the very bottom. i don't hate any character in the main ensemble. i dont even dislike any of them, not longterm. but i thought about dropping the show because of what they did. season 4 is climbing the ranks to become my least favorite season of this show. they butchered my baby and for that i shall never forgive them.
