Sep 24th 2025 dream: The boomerang

Note: italic is for external comments or context given to provide you with hopefully a better view.

The dream starts as I am in my bed at 3 am. For some reason I can't sleep (in my dream, yes), hence I decide to go to the kitchen, sitting at the dining table. There, I turn on the TV (which is not located in the kitchen in reality, but who cares) and start watching a TV program about... people suffering from rare diseases.

I usually don't have any issue watching programs like that! I also like TV shows such as docudramas or very explicit medical programs. As a matter of fact, the only TV channel I could really watch without getting bored is one we have in Italy that is FULL of stuff like that (and that is generally despised by the typical audience), so it's quite normal as a thing and not really the terrifying object of my dream.

What's sort of "frying me" is that, at 3 am, the TV channel pulls out their old recordings of the series. This means that what they are broadcasting is some very old analog season from 2004 (not saying a number at random, as a recurring theme in all my dreams is seeing very specific numbers. Maybe I should play them at the lottery sometimes), which is, as a matter of fact, creepy enough even if you don't usually get unsettled by that stuff.

Not knowing how to pass the time, I continue watching the TV while also doing some other activity, probably eating since I'm in the kitchen (not really remembering this but it's not that important), and I suddenly get startled by a strong thud, coming from outside. Already frightened enough by the TV, I start feeling paralyzed. The kitchen is on the ground floor, which means that anything getting inside the house instantly finds its place in that room. Trying to calm myself down, I try reassuring my own mind thinking that it could be my mother, who usually gets up very early, even before the sunrise. But as the dream goes on I feel more and more scared, the TV gets creepier, and I hear some footsteps coming at me. I would like to get back to my bedroom, but I'm stuck in my body trying to get up, feeling more and more paralyzed as time passes. Eventually, someone attacks, and I wake up.

It's not a usual thing for me to have nightmares. As I said in my last dream's blog, my episodes are rather characterized by a background feeling of anxiety, like a constant "what should I do now?" question bubble floating through my mind. Nonetheless, I had no trouble falling asleep again, and I went on dreaming.

I am now at my workplace, clocking in as soon as I get into the building where my office is. For some unknown reason, everything is mirrored. For some other unknown reason, I am wearing a FFP2 face mask.

As I get inside with a colleague, let's call him D., I help him with no premeditation to get behind me in order to hide from an old man, who has in my company the role of a manager, who would have probably stopped him with the aim of giving him already some stuff to do, despite it is at this hour still considered way too early to immediately get to work. Accomplishing our mission, I say hi to the old manager and proceed not towards my office, but rather towards the company's warehouse. As I turn around to look at D., he waves at me as a way of thanking me for the help, and I proceed towards the room that once was on the right, and that today is on the left instead. That said, my work day begins and goes on as usual, until I notice, only after some time, that I am wearing a face mask. "Why should I be doing that now?" I ask myself, and proceed to the other offices where a meeting is going to be held. As soon as I get the mask off, the setting gets back to how it usually was, and the situation looks kind of normal...

I attend the meeting, which is held in the company's kitchen of the direction's offices. Why there? Who the hell knows! The meeting starts and goes on as normal, until my dad and my aunt decide that it's their time to leave together. Here, the boomerang appears. It's a boomerang made out of steel, with way bigger dimensions than the usual boomerang you get to see (whenever you actually get to see one normally, I don't really know). It is but the key object of my dream, the target of every decision I am going to take from now on, and it's in their hands. In this moment, me and the other attendants are able to see the two of them getting inside a car that is parked right outside of the building. It is a grey SUV, neither his or her car in reality, and whilst my father sits in the front to drive, my aunt gets in the back. The steering wheel, now, is the only object in the world that is left mirrored. Unless we are suddenly in the United Kingdom but I don't think that's the case.

As soon as they get in the car, still holding the boomerang, here it's when they suddenly get playful with it: looking out the car window, my father throws the boomerang behind him, and the boomerang gets back at him. The real odd event happens when he passes the boomerang to my aunt. She decides to throw the boomerang in our direction, but it does not get any close to us, and instead goes back to them hitting the car and breaking not just one, but two of the car's windows! As everyone in the office expects her to get mad, she instead gets... joyful, despite what has just happened. My father turns the car on and they leave, observed by the many eyes coming from the building's kitchen windows.

Here, the third and last part of the dream begins. My main objective now is to reach them and to get my hands on the great boomerang of steel, and I end up at my local shopping center, where I meet my dear distant friend E. (I still have never met her in my whole eight years of knowing her but sure let's randomly meet at the mall and hang out). With very little trouble, somehow we easily find ourselves with the boomerang in our possession.

Where's the thrill? There isn't actually, so we decide to have a stop at a cafè inside the shopping centre, and we sit at two stools waiting to be served. Soon, a waiter comes and asks us what we would like to get: I prefer not getting anything, whilst E. takes some time to choose and finally asks for a... green smoothie? (I don't really remember the ingredients I'm sorry) He tells us it's going to cost 4€ and I'm like, sure, "can I pay it for her with credit card?" But he refuses. Not because he wants to evade the taxes by accepting cash only, but rather because he explains me that "I'll have to pay afterwards with the app". At this point, he asks me whether I'm sure that I don't want to order anything for me, but I don't give it much thought and stay on my decision of getting absolutely nothing, and eventually he leaves.

After consuming at the table, it's time to leave the cafè. E. keeps the boomerang safe inside her pants (not in her pockets, but literally inside her pants) and we continue walking in the mall until we run into some hidden stairs. Here, from the bottom of the stairs, I am able to see that the waiter of the cafè is waiting for me, and I immediately go up towards him. Even though the stairs have the great idea of becoming completely made out of sand, I have no issue getting to the guy, with the intent of paying for my friend's smoothie. Instead, he goes through a very narrow door, telling me that I'll actually have to talk with another man in order to pay, and at this point I accept with the hope that it's not going to take too much time. When he finally suggests me to download and open the app, though, here comes the scam: "Minimum fare: 20€"

That's why he insisted on advising me to get something! Silly me, now I'm paying 20€ for a smoothie. But I just want to get home, and I prefer not making a scene (also because I wouldn't have even in real life thanks to my compliance to even the most unjust of events, great job social anxiety).

Finally, I get home, and the boomerang is safe in my hands. What am I gonna do with it? I still don't really know... and yeah that's it. There would be a further conclusion in the dream but it's GROSS and... trust me, it's better if I end it like this.

Have a great day and say hello to your aunt for me
