I just finished the pilot episode for Glitch Production's Knight's of Guinevere and seriously I haven't been this excited for an animated show in a while. I already knew Dana Terrace was a genius because The Owl House was fantastic, but this just shows the sheer amount of raw potential that Disney was holding back. this show is groundbreaking. absolutely stunning 2D animation and a story that does not hold back. I need every other studio on the planet to take notes because this is the kind of emotional, raw, boundary-breaking art you get when you just let artists fulfill their visions. Kog is disturbing, skin-crawling, mythical, and real. it is a commentary on Disney and abuse towards workers and disregard for the environment. it is a commentary on misogyny and how women are used and abused within the entertainment industry and even trade careers and their everyday lives. it's characters are flawed and lovable and I already feel like I know them. it's world is vast and alien and confusing and I want to know every nook and cranny of it. its visuals are beautiful and meaningful and I can feel them on my skin and this story is driven by its visuals. I was just blown away by this pilot episode.
2D animation has been becoming less and less common and less and less respected in recent years. This has always really saddened me because 2D animation is my favorite kind of animation. it can achieve things no other artform can achieve. and it reminds me of fairytales and wonder and childhood. 2D animation is and always will be timeless and hold up decades later. so I am so so ecstatic that an animation studio that is in the spotlight right now is actually creating a 2D show- and a 2D show aimed at older audiences with such a unique art direction, genre, and concept nonetheless!!!
I highly recommend giving it a watch and supporting it if you can! I bought a Frankie plushie already just because I really want to support this project. I have been waiting for this ever since I heard about it earlier this year and I've been a fan of everything Dana Terrace creates so it was a no brainer for me.
loooookkk at how cute the plushie is !!!
