How do you guys do it?

Can somebody please tell me how do they SMOOTHLY AND CREATIVELY come up with an  OC storyline?

I swear I could have a cool or atleast decent plot for a character but when it comes to actual story building I freeze…

Like the nonsense that I do is I see a cool photo/scene and I just picture my character doing something similar and just straight up maladaptive daydream and talk to myself for hours like an idiot.

But you see my brain is hella fried so I can’t put two and two together or think straight  like one second my character can be in an epic fight and the other second they’re on a yacht with Beyoncé or something.

Like if somebody placed a gun to my head and told me to write lore for a character or characters that I randomly came up with, yall will have to start searching for coffins cause I’ll be dead!

But genuinely how do some of you guys come up with amazing oc lore?

I bring realism, some of my own thoughts, and inspiration into my writing. I feel like fan writings help this. For example taking a Danganronpa cast but having who lives and who doesn't be different, or making your own DR story.

My characters all have a world I've placed them into, and they all have purposes to fulfill in the story. The important characters have pre-established roles that relate to the conflict in the world. They can be related to other characters, but for me it's easier to write them if they also have a direct tie into the main conflict.

Don't know if any of this makes sense. I'm not good at explaining some things. If you wanted you could ask "how to -" online as well and look at forums. Hopefully someone here will be able to answer your question better than me though!

Try to bring more realism into your writing, it can be difficult to work events into a larger story arc if they are too grand, but if the behaviours of your characters are natural to their traits then having them interact and create dialogue then you can more easily progress the story.

I have no idea how to just sit down and write lore I just get random revelations across the span of years :P
Writing lore for a new character or story just requires a lot of dumbassery and luck until you get it right, in my experience.
But developing existing characters I like to just look for as many plot holes as possible and pick apart everything which I don't like. Sometimes like you said, looking at external media can give a lot of inspo. (I like music best :D)
I'm very far from a professional storyteller I'm just a random person with a bunch of OCs but I hope this helps?????
Ya gl!
