like father, like son (Pt. 2)

The day has come for me to meet him. My supposedly birth father.

I'm standing right in front of the entrance of the skyscraper building. After a deep breath, I head on over to the receptionist and relay my intentions. They told me to take the elevator to the 19th floor... that's just 2 floor from the highest one on this building.

The elevator occasionally stops to take and spit out passengers. It was some times until I finally got to the designated floor. An elegant and quite humbling view greeted me. I walked towards a door, and knocked.

The door was opened by someone, who was just an assistant. The real deal was sitting behind a dark wooden desk, clearly of the highest quality. We locked eyes. My heart skips a beat. Those eyes, the same ones that I see on the mirror everyday. Everything else though, I take after my mother even more so than I thought.

A smile creases on his face. A genuine, heartwarming one. But, that wasn't the face of someone who's overjoyed to finally meet his long lost son.

"Come and take a seat, child." He says.

It's more like... the expression that forms when you reunite with your beloved, after a painful amount of time.

I take my seat on one of the sofas as the assistant place down an assortment of... cookies

"What would you like to drink?" He asks, as he makes his way to sit right across me.

"Ah, tea is fine..."

I don't know. Are cookies something one usually offers in this kind of setting? Or is it exactly because of the setting that cookies are offered? My mother liked cookies, is that why? I'm not much of a fan of them though.

My mind runs on all kinds of thoughts as the assistant places the freshly prepared tea in front of us.

"Thank you. Would you mind leaving us? I need some time alone with my... son." The man in front of me spoke to the assistant.

They left. It's now just me and him. [redacted]. My father.

...

I'm getting nervous.
