i've been hearing through the grapevine that the world is ending. here is what i would pack to prepare for the rapture - which, apparently, is happening tomorrow.
- enough peanut butter to last for eternity.
- a pouch full of soil from my birthplace so i can sleep in peace.
- my stuffed poodle, pigtail. i lost track of her a long time ago but somewhere between here and there we'll see each other again.
- my license and registration.
- my bottle cap collection.
- a pack of playing cards. there may be time at last to learn to shuffle them properly.
i have also been advised to begin preparing my home for those members of my family whose souls will be left behind on earth. this means i will have to make arrangements for my plants to be watered. more on this as it develops.

ANYWAYS. Entry #3, dated 11-17-2023.
PART THE FIRST: FEATHERLESS BIPEDS
god climbed out of the primordial soup and said
"follow me to the nitrogen tanks -
it's just
at the edge of oblivion."
but that didn't stop my being here today.
i've been sleeping in a tree made of chalk
while the meteors race for first prize.
it's a shame it has to end this way
but it doesn't seem to bother the birds much.
//ants crawling on the face of the planet
can't get much worse than this.
or can it?//
