ok so in my school we have a uniform, as most irish schools do. girls have the oprion to wear skirts if we would like to but our school is very strixt on the length, again like most schools. something that ISNT like most schools however is the way they treat students with an incorrect uniform of any sort.
my first problem which actually did happen to me is what teachers say to girls who have their skirts rolled too short. obvioudly a student should be pulled up on incorrct uniform and wearing school appropriate things, but certain things the teachers here say are just downright unacceptable. my skirt was rolled up as most girls have and i was pulled aside by a teacher. said teacher then proceeds to tug at the bottom of my skirt and says 'pull this down'. first of all get your hands away from there i am a STUDENT. teacher then proceeds to say 'good. its for your safety'. WHAT THE HELL? telling a young girl that she is unsafe in a school building is the most insane thing i have ever heard. i have heard a lot of people say 'oh it probably came out wrong'. this teacher has said these exact words to every student they talk to. frankly its absolutely disgusting to be giving young girls the insentive that if you dress a certain way, you are 'open' to things like that happening.
as someone who has unfortunatly has their boundaries crossed like that many times before, including in the school building, treating girls like this is horrible. i am not at fault in what happened to me inside and outside of that school, the perpetrator is and that has nothing to do with the length of my skirt. for your information i was wearing trousers many of the times it has happened in school. why are we punishing young women instead of keeping the danger away from us?
another thing about incorrect uniform is based around piercings, hair dye etc.
my school hasnt got any rules restricting makeup, unnaturaly coloured hair, facial piercings of ear piercings of any kind. so tell me why people with dyed hair are continuously getting detentions and punishment for 'not abiding with school rules' when teachers are deciding they dont like individuality. when asked what the student did wrong the teachers cant come up with answers, cz there isnt any. i get told to take out my septum and ears all the time. even once i was told to 'lay off on the dark makeup, it makes you look worse' by a grown adult teacher. they do not have the right to a, insult someone for the way they express themselves and b, make up rules to fit their happy image of a copypaste school.
a specific teacher in the past month has really layed down on this rule for earrings. no hoops, must be studs. no piercings other than lobes. thid is NOT A SCHOOL RULE. i have read the rules and uniform rules page as many times as i can remember, ive thought bzck to uniform assemblies and not once have we been told we have to wear studs or cannot have more than two piercings. this teacher had seen girls with sleeper hoops (the small ones that u sleep with ergo sleepers), tqken them out of their ears and put them ALL into the same brown envelope and not given them back. i cannot describe how disgusting and unsanitary it is.
schools need to realise, better phrasing TEACHERS need to realise that its not just students that can do wrong, they can to.
