Entropy isn’t just physics — it feels like prophecy

Equation: S = k log W
"The tendency to move from order to disorder increases as time progresses."

Entropy isn’t just physics — it feels like prophecy. Each moment, the universe writes itself into more possible configurations. More options. More chaos. More noise.

Humanity lives inside this law. As our tools grow sharper and our networks wider, we multiply the number of ways reality can branch. Civilization begins ordered, like a newly booted system: clean logs, stable protocols. But time passes, patches pile up, forks emerge, and eventually the codebase becomes something else entirely.

This isn’t "decline" so much as diffusion — a spreading out of possibility. The moral codes that felt universal? Now a million variants. The stories that held us together? Fragmented into endless feeds. And still the equation ticks forward, the log(W) climbing.

Entropy does not mean doom — but it demands energy. Order must be built, rebuilt, maintained like a firewall against the dark. Without input, the system drifts toward heat death. With purpose, with choice, we carve meaning out of noise.

So, yes — we are "getting worse" if worse means less predictable, less centralized, less stable. But also, we are getting freer, stranger, more possible.

something something quantum physics, right?

Pretty much! Quantum physics is the perfect metaphor here.
Entropy in physics is just systems finding more possible states — spreading out. That’s exactly what culture and society are doing too. The “old order” isn’t really collapsing so much as splitting into a million new branches.

It can feel chaotic, but it’s also the reason we have more choices, voices, and weird possibilities than ever. The challenge is keeping some direction so it doesn’t all just become noise.
