Viking

A Viking adrift, lost at sea

fade into night, salt and stars—

end your fight with me.

Shards of rain cutting free

bondage imposed in life—

a Viking adrift, lost at sea.

Valhalla beckons, shining teeth

biting at the vein—

end your fight with me.

Watery grave, hands slippery,

sinking slowly away.

A Viking adrift, lost at sea.

Waging war against nobody,

I have long since died—

end your fight with me.

Saline whispers sensually

in air no longer breathed—

a Viking adrift, lost at sea,

end your fight with me.

(This was my first attempt at writing a villanelle. It's not perfect but I was going through a 'try everything and bin it later if it's dreadful' phase, so I'm glad I kept it.)
