"Wiggle Your Big Toe": Why Kill Bill is a cool movie

Yesterday i watched Kill Bill Vol. 1 again with my girlfriend and i stopped and thought about the impact the phrase ''wiggle your big toe'' had on me in that scene where she's laying down in the backseat of the Pussy Wagon (I'm sure that's a very easy to swallow thing to read for someone who hasn't seen the film). It's such a weird sentence that makes sense in the context of the movie, as Black Mamba/The Bride (however you wanna call her) was trying to rehabilitate her lower half after 4 years of coma, but is also so unexpectedly silly and strange for a character that is THAT badass and tough put in a situation like that; creating emphasis on the big crescendo of the movie that goes from not being able to move her legs in a wheelchair to slicing up hundreds of japanese fighters in an epic yet absurd samurai sword fight. It also makes sense because Quentin Tarantino really likes feet.

I feel what makes Kill Bill so brilliant is the contrast between the awe-inspiring 'serious' epicness and the over the top violence that manages to surprise you in the most creative of ways, that is, for better and for worst. It's definitely not a movie for everyone as it is so unrealistically brutal and silly at the same time, some (my girlfirend) would scoff at it and deem it ignorant or too extreme just for the sake of it, but i find this 'ignorant' aspect to be very well put. It's not silly because it's trying to constantly show that it's silly and it's not silly because it's so bad it's ridiculous, it is silly because it is in a way that YOU imply it for its utter absurdity. The movie is what it is, and it is COOL! it's cool silly.

I see it as a westernized version of classic kung fu movies, bringing the over-exaggeration of japanese media to the max in a legendary way, all with a sprinkle of intercultural characters and influence that Tarantino loves to put in his movies (apart from feet). Hence the inclusion of RZA from the Wu-Tang Clan as a main component for the making of the soundtrack. It just makes sense to include the primary producer and beatmaker for the old school hip hop group that mixes both american and kung fu culture into one, creating an unmatched and iconic style that is just... COOL! (just like Kill Bill)

This movie has everything: intertwining timelines, interesting visuals, timeless iconic sound effects, creative fights and duels with grand finales, abrupt shifts in tension, mixture of cultures, anime, easily recognizable signature looks, and lots of blood and violence. YEAHH!!!!!!!

Kill Bill is a cool movie
