Eltingville Club

Been obsessing over Evan Dorkin’s artstyle lately, specifically his stuff from the Eltingville Club. I finally gave the failed pilot a watch yesterday and I’m pretty hooked but mostly sad the show never got picked up. I wanna give the actual comic a shot since the whole thing is on the Internet Archive but people say the characters are WAY more insufferable in the comics so now I’m kinda scared I won’t enjoy it as much because while yes, none of them are good people in the pilot cartoon but apparently in the comics they’re just a 100% times more awful.

I want to get a physical copy of the comics actually cuz I think it’d be nice to own but upon looking for the prices of the old hardback copies of it, they are DAMN expensive like people are selling them for a fortune and I was honesly about to give up on owning a physical copy until lo and behold, Evan Dorkin announces that they’re finally publishing more physical copies due to popular demand and for an affordable price ($35). It comes out April of next year during Evan’s birthday and ur allowed to pre-order now if u want, I live in Malaysia though so I’m hoping the thing reaches international markets even if it means waiting a couple more months or so and I hope it’s at the very least in the MYR200-MYR300 price range cuz any more and I probably won’t get it. That’s enough time for me to collect some money somehow (part-time job maybe?).

Anyways, Eltingville Club has also got me thinking about how interesting it’d be to make a modern day version of it where people are obsessed with like other stuff besides comics, D&D and whatnot. Especially if it’d include women as well now that fandom spaces has changed a lot since then. Lmao idk maybe I could create my own weird spinoff someday
