“One day I was on a streetcar, and I saw a sophomore in high school, and guess what? On his computer he had Bandlab open, using his phone as a mobile hotspot.” 

This blog post is a direct follow up to the last one I made. Not because what I said was “incorrect,” but because I would like to add a short layer of nuance to everything I said. 

Today, I was correctly reminded by Loyola’s very own Grammy award nominated and WINNING, Professor Emily Eeck, the concept of hard work and gratitude. 

The professor got on what she refers to as her ‘metaphorical soapbox’ and sternly forced us to acknowledge that for us to be here today, someone else got rejected. That we got just enough money that we felt like coming here was worth it, while someone else, who either wanted to be here just as much or MORE, didn’t. And after hearing her give our very much deserved ‘come to jesus moment” (again her words not mine lol), I genuinely felt grateful. 

Because she is right. 

Yes, I am alone, and it sucks. Yes, life is hard, and it sucks. Yes, I don’t know what the fuck Im doing, and guess what? IT FUCKING SUCKS. 

But somewhere out there, there is a 14 year old that is doing all they can so one day they can be sitting in the same rooms that I am sitting in. 

I know this because I was once that kid.

I don't say any of this to invalidate my feelings, or to feel guilty, because I don’t. No matter what sometimes this shit is hard and that really fucking sucks. 

But I DO say all of this as a reminder that it's important to be grateful for where you are today.

 As of current, I have all these amazing ass opportunies that I never thought I would get, that I would even be ALIVE to get, and I have yet to carpe diem the fuck out them. 

Anyways! I’m getting off my soapbox now lol.
