Don’t Breathe 2 was one of the few sequels that was just as good as its predecessor! To recap, the first movie was about three thieves (Rocky, Money and Alex) all looking to score big for their various reasons. They break into an old blind war veterans (Norman) home after reading about his $300,000 settlement received after a drunk driver killed his daughter. What they didn’t know was that just because he was blind didn’t mean he was unable to defend himself. He kills Money, the other two get the money, retreat to the basement and find the driver who killed his daughter (Cindy) locked and chained in the basement.
We find out that he was trying to replace his daughter by inseminating Cindy with a new child. A whole lot of fighting and killing and dog chasing happens after that. Rocky gets kidnapped, gets free, gets re-kidnapped, gets free again with all the money. At the end we find out that Norman is alive but the way they report the news is that he was “terrorized” by the teens that he killed.
Ok so boom, when you’re first watching Don’t Breathe 2 and getting into the plot you see that Norman got his replacement daughter. Don’t know how, don’t know why but here’s this little girl (Phoenix) he is training in self defense. So when you see men breaking into his house trying to take the little girl you assume that the ring leader (Raylan) is her daddy and..he is. But every daddy ain’t a father chile. We find out that Norman “rescued” the two-year old little girl from a house fire after her father and mother blew up the Meth lab in their home. The mother is assumed to be dead and Raylan goes to jail for eight years.
Raylan seemingly defeats Norman and takes Phoenix to his very shady empty building of criminals, we find out that her Mom is in fact not dead, she’s just half-dead due to the chemical’s and smoke from the housse fire. Two things every mama ain’t a mother and not that you need the warning but..don’t be cooking meth in your house. Anywho we think they are having this sweet innocent reunion..until we realize mama needs a heart transplant by a family member. Yes they have “rescued” this little girl in order to MURDER HER FOR HER HEART! Whew the TWIST! The SCANDAL! The BETRAYAL! You done messed up your dusty life and now want to steal the life of their daughter? I cannot.
Well it just about looks like it’s over for little miss Phoenix when low and behold Norman the unkillable force himself shows up. Raylan sends out his people to get murdered and the last dude is like sir i’m not gon hold you; go get your daughter.
In a very twisty turny sequence of events Phoenix is handcuffed to her mother’s wheelchair. Her mother ends up shot and her wheelchair begins to roll, almost brining both her and Phoenix to their deaths. Now we all have to remember that Phoenix has been trained in self defense and is very skilled so she grabs a knife and literally hacks her mother’s arm off securing her own life.
Phoenix and Norman have a moment where Norman wants Phoenix to leave him alone; he gets stabbed by the seemingly dead Rayland. Phoenix stabs him to death and is like daddy I can saveeee you and he says “You already have”. She runs to a children’s shelter she found earlier in the movie and it looks like things might just turn around for her now.
So you think the movies over? Nah we cut to a scene where we see Mr. Norman’s fingers twitch a little bit. Another movie on the way perhaps. So after reading about both movies do you think that Norman is a bad guy or someone stricken with extreme grief? Let me know in the comments!
I liked the movie, not too many movies can do a sequel and make it this good!
My Takeaways
- Life is full of tough choices but none of them should be killing your kid for a heart
- Everyone is capable of forgiveness even when others don’t really deserve it
