Before you come after me keep an open mind! I've noticed a lot of people have "proshippers dni" on their profile but then they ship non canon things. A lot of people don't know what proshiping is and its very obvious.
To start you need to know proshipping is the combination of the two words "pro" and "ship." Pro is meaning "in favor of" and ship meaning "support or have a particular interest in a romantic pairing between two characters in a fictional series, often when this relationship is portrayed by fans rather than depicted in the series itself." That last part is impotent, a lot of ships are portrayed by fans. Meaning that a proshipper is someone who is in favor of shipping charters and a proship is literally just any ship that isn't canon.
Proshippers are people who support shipping and the right to ship freely. Proshippers don't harass people for what they ship, even if they don't like it. They just scroll or block and move on.
That's it. That's what being a proshipper is. ..So if you ever shipped something then yes you are a proshipper.
If you still are confused then you are most likely thinking of "comships" and "darkships." But im too lazy continue on with this so if you want to know more ask me!

from my perspective, the term "shipping" itself is *already* includes the genre of fans shipping two non-canon characters together, so using "proship" instead doesn't seem very necessary.
also, wasn't the "pro" actually short for "problematic"? plus lots of proshippers call themselves proshippers because they are aware that they support problematic ships. thus, it doesnt really seem necessary or possible to change the reputation of the term
yes shipping is already most of the time not canon but there are people who ONLY ship canon things and think that anything that ISN'T canon is bad.. so that's why the term proship was made, its for people who think shipping is fine even if they don't agree with it.
It doesn't stand for problematic at all.. like I said it's a combination of the two words "pro" and "ship." Though I will say there are proshippers who ship "problematic" things but not all of them are like that. Like I said proships are just ships that aren't canon and proshippers are people who support shipping and let people ship freely even if they don't like it. ANY ship that isn't canon is a proship lol
If you're thinking of things that are problematic then you're probably thinking of comships and darkships.. I can explain those too if you want to know.

Okay, so it means all kinds of shipping. But that includes the controversial ships, because if you accept all ships, then it really means ALL ships, good and illegal. That's why people say "proship dni", because at the end of the day, it still normalizes ships that are harmful.
Essentially, the difference between shipping and proshipping is that one supports problematic relationships- and this should be the comparison, rather than a concern over canon/non-canon. That's my perspective on it
