000 - How to allow media autoplay!
A few of you eagle-eyed readers may have noticed that I briefly mention enabling media autoplay in your browser settings for the "best experience" of my profile, what I mean by this is enabling media autoplay will allow you to hear the background music on my profile as well as all my blog posts.
Warning! Enabling media autoplay will blast your ears with extremely loud nightcore music 98% of the time on spacehey as a whole. I use my computer with the volume around 10-20 so it does not bother me personally, but if you are of the majority of people who browse the web with their volume at 50 or higher this may not be the best decision! You can always mute the tab to stop any intrusive audio.
Before we continue though, some of you may have also noticed that my profile uses lots and lots of marquee tags. I have done some research on this and as far as I'm aware they should work on all widely used browsers with the most recent versions installed... my windows 10 laptop however is unable to load any of these elements with the latest version of firefox installed. To my knowledge, there is no way to get these elements working in incompatible environments besides trying another browser.
Now, with that all out of the way...
The meat and potatoes!
For Firefox users
On the website you'd like to allow media autoplay for (in this case, spacehey,) click the third button from the left on the URL bar, doing so will open the permissions for the site. Text reading "Autoplay" with a drop down menu beside it will be there. Go ahead and click the drop down menu, select "Allow Audio and Video," and everything should be working as intended!
You may need to enable this permission for blog.spacehey.com as well for blog posts.
If you want to enable this setting for all websites, open Firefox's settings, then simply type "autoplay" into the search bar and open the autoplay settings. There will be a drop down menu at the top to change the default for all websites.
For Chrome users
As far as I'm aware media autoplay comes enabled by default on chrome, as it always has for me. If autoplay isn't working then there may be an extension messing with it or you may simply have the tab muted.
For Opera GX users
I haven't used Opera GX for quite some time but I remember it was quite a hassle to enable autoplay. If my memory serves me right the process is largely the same as Firefox, but you will need to go the long route of entering your browser settings and manually entering in the address of the website you want to enable autoplay on.
I know that Opera GX is a Chromium based browser so again, it should have autoplay enabled by default. Spacehey, however, has historically not had autoplay enabled when I try to view my profile on there.
If any Opera users can verify the validity of it's default autoplay settings in the comments it would be greatly appreciated!
Other browsers
The process should be largely the same for any other browser. Find site settings/permissions somewhere on the URL bar and enable autoplay OR open your browser's settings and manually enter the address in the autoplay settings.
And there you have it! You should now be able to hear everybody's way too loud background music on the best website ever created! If you are still unable to hear the background music on various spacehey profiles then I am unable to offer any troubleshooting steps besides check if the tab is muted, check if your browser is muted in the volume mixer, check your browser for updates, remove extensions that may be causing it, or try another browser.
