2. Independence Day!! September 15, 2025

Happy Independence Day my beloved Honduras!!!!!

Today, Honduras celebrates 204 years of independence!

I went to see the parade with my family, we were there ALL day and I'm exhausted. But it was beautiful to see. I love watching them every year and it fills me with so much joy. My favorite part will always be the marching band, it makes me so excited and can't help but vibe to their catchy rhythm (/≧▽≦)/. Honestly I admire marching bands A LOT, I think they are soooo cool. But yeah, it was a great day, we had fun!!

This might be a good opportunity to talk about the only time I participated in the parade (╯▽╰ ).

I was in 7th grade when my school was going to participate in the Independence Day parade for the first time EVER. This was new for everybody lol and my teacher chose me to be one of the flag bearers/escort bc I had good grades (always on honor roll type of student). I was THRILLED, believe me. I ended up mainly being one of the flag bearer's escort so, I was only going to bear the flag for my companion to rest.

The most awaiting day came and I NEVER touched that flag T_T. The guy I was supposed to help rest never actually let me help him... I was mad but at the same time relieved bc I know those flags are damn heavy lol. SOOOOO it was an interesting experience =_=. It was exhausting tho, the sun was trynna kill us or something that day, there were many people passing out bc of it.

Anyways, I LOVE YOU HONDURASSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

Now I’m really interested, what kind of music do the marching bands in Honduras play? Does it differ from average marching band music?

Well I don't know what the average marching band music is, I only know what music marching bands play here in Honduras. Here they mostly play national music, what represents us, which are always very fun and catchy. Sometimes they also play pop music or whatever is popular at the moment. Marching bands focus on hyping everyone with their music, that's what the parades mean, having fun and celebrate our independence. We also have what we call "palillonas", which are girls wearing a colorful dress and they dance to the band's music with a "bastonete" (think of it as a baton or stick). So this girls also builds up to the happy and fun experience. I recommend to you watch this video ( https://youtu.be/cA85qrzhmwA?si=5upfYfUTwBfzP-hc ) so you have a better idea what our parades look like ^_^. It's a bit long so you should skip some parts but there you will see some marching bands and the palillonas.
