endgame (poetry thing #2)

and there you were...

waiting for a girl who barely knows your name anymore.

a girl who forgot all you are and all you have been.

time will do that.

the only solution is more time.

enough so she looks back and fondly remembers the time you had—

but not long enough for her to resent all that could have been.

maybe one day she will see you as you see her.

likely not though.

she fell in love again.

she thinks she is happy.

is she?

only she can say.

what if you simply cause her pain?

what if you simply cause her sorrow?

she is internally furious.

why did you leave?

she’s heard every excuse in the book.

what really went on?

she needs to know.

and it needs to be soon.

she’s sorry.

but you need to be too.

she saw you in his eyes.

that’s the real reason she fell for him.

she longed for your touch,

your voice,

your scent,

your taste.

he was the closest thing.

she had been searching for you

in every place,

every person,

everything she saw.

you leaving crushed her.

she is willing to take you back.

of course she is.

she had always loved you.

through the stars

and moons

and universes

and everything combined—

she had always loved you.

go to her.

just don’t crush her again.

she couldn’t take the pain,

nor ache,

nor sadness,

nor sorrow.

this is your last chance.

so go.

this is endgame.

this is forever.

freezing winter nights next to a hearth.

cozy autumn afternoons walking in the forest.

boiling hot summer days at the fair.

mornings spent tending to your shared garden.

so run.

run together

and never stop.

you love her.

and she loves you.

i have always loved you.
