Mitski has been my top 1 artist for the past five years. Since 2019. I was only 10 when I listened to her the first time ever, washing machine heart was the song that introduced me to her. I remember thinking her voice being so pretty and calming. Mind you this was right after I lost my mom. Even though I was too young to understand what all of her songs meant, I still knew they were more than just pretty melodies. Class of 2013 was my top song in 2020, when I was grieving my mom the most, how funny. Mitski got the position of my comfort artist that year and she still is, though there is not really much comfort in her lyrics lmao.
So six years with Mtski and I'm still not bored. I still listen to washing machine heart even though I over played it back then, I still love that song. I love Mitski's voice, I love how powerful it is and how many emotions it can spark up in me. I now understand-and have understood for 3 years-her songs better, and I love to research about their meanings and looking for metaphors in her lyrics.
Currently my favorite albums of Mitski are Lush and Puberty2, because I'm an angsty teenage girl let's be for real. But I her songs where she talks about being an adult, they make me want to get to that age where I can understand those things completely. She inspires me so much and she motivates me. It sounds crazy when I say that "oh Mitski's music is so sad, oh I'm so sad when I listen to her" when in reality, yes-I am incredibly sad and i believe that maybe if I stopped listening to sad songs I could be happier- but I am also incredibly happy when I am listening to Mitski-her more cheerful sounding songs make me dance a bit, just like some of her sadder songs. It sounds so sad when I say I dance to Your best American girl...on a daily basis.. But come on it is just as danceable song as Should've been me!!
in other words: Mitski's been my top 1 artist for 6 years straight, I am a oh so sad teenager and I love Mitski. And I got tickets for the Mitski film so I'm feeling yappy, happy and sappy LOLZĀ
