So like almost my entire country had a blackout two days ago and I wanna write down what I saw during the blackout. I didn't check the news during this time so what I saw was just in my own city while driving around.
1. I managed to find out what buildings have their own generator and that most restaurants and stores surprisingly dont have one, especially ones that were still open. Moments like these were definitely times people would try to steal stuff, so it's kinda surprising some areas dont have them. The buildings that DID have working electricity are filled with customers or people just staying nearby for the light.
2. Saw some houses with lights in it and while some did have their own generators, most of them had to use their own flashlight. I was able to identify it because of that specific shade of white for those flashlights and the fact that it was angled in a weird way to lit the whole room. Also, apparently there were small generators being sold around here. For my whole life, I thought generators only came in large sizes, not portable ones. They also last quite long, probably for a week if you use it wisely.
3. Only one gas station (that I saw so far) had a generator. In just a few minutes, that gas station was literally FILLED with cars trying to fill gas. There was even a long line of cars next to the entrance of the gas station. All other gas stations were deserted in the next few minutes of the blackout. Also, people do panic over gas apparently. After the blackout ended, that one gas station still had customers like normal BUT the other gas stations only had one or two people there.
4. The traffic lights had electricity same as some of the streetlights. Thanks whoever invented solar-charged lights. Also, surprisingly no car crashes during the blackout.
5. Kids do not give a fuck if the electricity is out. All my cousins were literally running around and playing during the blackout. They were screaming and running so much that I'm pretty sure the neighbours got annoyed by it-
6. Some people rather sleep in the car then go back inside the house to sleep. I saw several cars with the lights on and someone being asleep inside. They also parked near the buildings that had light in it.
7. I can finally see the stars after like years of being unable to see them. Since there was little to no light pollution, I was FINALLY able to see more than 3 stars in the sky. It was really pretty. Also, apparently stars do twinkle? I thought it was just some myth or something nonsensical but apparently they do twinkle. It could just be my eyesight being so ass but the largest star I saw was changing colours from light blue to brown to white then repeat. I'm not sure about the smaller ones cause again, my eyesight is ass.
8. People who were already in a restaurant before the blackout happened do not care that there was a blackout. They will still eat the food that's served and even chill around for a few minutes or more like it was still a casual night out.
9. Candles are fun to light and watch as it melts. I get why some people buy it now (and not for the scent).
10. Lastly, cold night air is the perfect sleeping temperature for me. Not as hot as just using the fan and not as cold as using the aircon. Just hot enough to not make me sweat and not cold enough to have me shiver like I'm stuck in ice.
And yeah, that's it. Wild time to be awake for not gonna lie. The Internet was also dead for everybody so it was hard to talk to friends and get information online about the blackout. It's still cool to experience nonetheless.
