I understand that in terms of graphics, Nintendo went in the cow licked, microscopically polished direction, but.... I DON'T LIKE THAT!!!!!!!! Games just don't feel like they used to before... That also applies for shows and music... entertainment in general. Tomodachi Life (and even Tomodachi Collection) have a very cosy feeling to the graphics. They were good for their times. I saw the trailer for the new Tomodachi Life (but only through Nintendo of America) and my eyes were aching after watching it. Why was everything so bright? Why were the Miis uncannily oily? Even AC: Pocket Camp didn't feel this smooth and oily, and it used similar graphics. If I can, I'll get a 3DS and a Wii. For now, I'll just rely on emulators and, for other types of gaming, my trustworthy PSP and the local arcade.
Look, I understand that some stylistic choices were present ever since, maybe, the first Switch, but this is not it...
I could also complain about the hairstyles and fashion choices, but those are somewhat reflecting real life trends and such.
Idk man... I'm not even that old, barely mid 20s and I never really enjoyed the Switch nor did I ever understand the hype. And no... I'm not excited for the Switch 2.

Why? Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

y'all just don't get it, idgaf how bad and generic it looks, I been begging for Tomodachi life for the switch for YEARS and YEARS, and with new customization and I honestly thought they had just abandoned it after the controversy, I'll take anything I can get tbh. and It doesn't look that bad honestly, I prefer the older ones but like who cares I don't go to games for the graphics
I don't think that's how you should look at games. :/
Games are visual, auditory, and mechanics-based. Nowadays, many game companies simply don't respect games.
I also don't care that people have been begging for this game for years. If a product looks unappealing and strays too far from what made it appealing in the first place, then it's no longer the same product.
The lack of customisation allowed people to express their creativity in many different ways (although Tomodachi Life has many more features than Tomodachi Collection, for example).
I'm not a fan of the Switch, so I'm not optimistic about the future of AAA game companies.
However, I really hope that the game remains as unserious and wacky as ever.

Yk I actually thought the miis themselves looked fairly charming
But I do agree that nintendo's newer graphics end up looking to polished and gummy-like, like synthetic candy, same goes for things like the 3ds pokemon games, they just looked so much better
What I did dislike about the visuals was the way the overworld looked, it looked really bad when clashing with the miis, idk if the 3ds had the same models for the overworld but it certainly blended better, the weird looking real life 2d images visuals were lacking tho
Yeah... I'm pretty sure the world and everything surrounding them blended much better in Tomodachi Life and even the DS Tomodachi Collection.
Miis don't have to be weirdly polished avatars, they just need to be... well... Miis. It was their simplicity that made them charming.
The 2d images of real stuff is the type of wacky stuff we need. XD

I AGREE!! Tomodachi life is my childhood and it has a totally different vibe, also bc of the graphics. Same with AC: I used to play city folk on my wii when I was little and it was completely different
Ig the new graphics just don't hit the same anymore
Thank you for understanding T-T
I never had the opportunity to actually own a 3DS or a Wii (only my neighbour had a Wii), but even I appreciate older Nintendo graphics.
I really do wonder how can people like this...
Graphics are weird and art direction is meh at best.
