the day after you died, by haruki

it didn’t rain the day after you diedΒ

it was the same as every other day

the sun shined and the birds sung

it was another normal day

where the flowers bloomed

and the children went to school

your room didn’t changeΒ

the bed was neatly madeΒ

everything in it’s place

your mess of books at the desk

the glass of water next to the bed

the closet opened, your clothes a prize

it all stayed the sameΒ

but it would never be the same

it was a bright roomΒ

and it looked eager to be used againΒ

but i knew that it’d never be touched againΒ

i breathed in your air in that roomΒ

and once i closed the door, i knew i never would againΒ

the day after you died i didn’t go to workΒ

i sat in my room, not knowing what to do

you were my whole world and the only reason i livedΒ

but now that you were gone i knew i’d never be the same againΒ

the world was loud and busy, it had always beenΒ

but it would not change or stop for the loss of one manΒ

everyone would move on and everything would be the sameΒ

but no matter what i’d never laugh again

the day after you died

i didn’t breath againΒ

instead i joined youΒ

and held you in my arms once againΒ
