MY AUGUST '25 MOVIES | to watch or not to watch?

Hi guys! My friends basically peer-pressured me into using SpaceHey, and I always post every movie I watch in a month on Instagram, so I figured I might as well do it on here too. These are going to be listed in chronological order, and I'll rate them with a 5 star system! If you have any movie suggestions, please leave a comment! ★★★⯪☆

The Godfather - ★★★★★ - The Godfather is a classic mafia movie, about the notorious Corleone family and how Don Corleone's youngest son, Michael, handles being thrust into the role of successor during a time of turmoil. I am suuuch a shill for this movie it's embarrassing. I hadn't seen it until this year, and I rewatched like a few days after I had seen it for the first time. It's 3 hours but somehow it never feels like so long when I watch it. PEAK CINEMA!!

Sinners - ★★★★★ - Sinners is a vampire filled thriller. Twins Smoke and Stack establish a juke joint in Mississippi, a communal spot of enjoyment for the local Black community. Their plans run awry when vampires linger outside the establishment, coaxing potential victims outside with their siren songs. I wanted to see this when it came out in theatres sooo bad but I am Broke... so I watched it with my friend when he was staying over :3 All of the characters, even the ones with little screentime like the Choctaw vampire hunters, were so well thought out and it's clear that Coogler put a lot of thought into this project. The commentary on the Black community's relationship with Christianity/traditional practices like hoodoo at the time was especially interesting to me. I'd love to rewatch!

Grave of the Fireflies - ★★★★★ - An antiwar film, this movie focuses on the experiences of two Japanese children, a tween brother and his toddler sister, trying to survive in WWII Japan. Such a sad movie (my friend was mad at me after I put it on because of how heartbreaking it is lol) but it's very near and dear to my heart and I consider it a comfort movie.

Odd Thomas - ★★ - ...Odd Thomas, who's original name Todd was messed up due to a clerical error, can see dead people (bro thinks he's Kendrick Lamar) and is able to assist the police in solving cases with his supernatural abilities. My bestie has been pushing for me to read the book, and maybe I will, but this movie was just so corny I was lost braincells just watching it.

Igby Goes Down - ★★★★★ - MY FAVE MOVIE EVER!! The unruly teenaged "Igby" Slocumb flunks out of every prestigious prep school his high-strung mother Mimi places him in, so he is sent to military school. After running away from it all, Igby is forced to figure out who he is, and what he wants out of life. Such a typical 2002 coming of age movie. Very special to me.

Inglorious Basterds - ★★★★★ - If you haven't seen this movie, I'm just going to assume you've been living under a rock (no shade to the friend I showed this movie to. love you bro). Nazis getting what they deserve and a team of Jewish U.S soldiers dishing it out-- family fun for all. Classic Tarantino violence and I'm a sucker for it.

Space Jam - ★★★⯪ - I literally just watched it in the lobby during my doctor's appointment.

Hannibal Rising - ★★ - Anyone that knows me knows I love the Hannibal franchise, so to rate anything from it so low is kind of uncharacteristic of me. Why? Because it's fucking weird. The Lady Murasaki/Hannibal Lecter (aka aunt/nephew) romance plot is so unneeded. I know it's book accurate and I don't like it ughhhhhh.

The Prince of Egypt - ★★★★★ - The Biblical story of Moses. That's the plot. The animation is so fucking good. The soundtrack is good. My goat Ralph Fiennes is the voice of Ramses too.

The Godfather Part III - ★★⯪ - A disappointment to the integrity of the previous Godfather movies. Watch the first and second one and trust me when I say you don't want to see the incest that goes down in this one.

The Bee Movie - ★★★⯪ - You know what this movie is about. It's in the title. I hate that I love this movie so much.

KPop Demon Hunters - ★★★★ - KPop group Huntrix is a tightknit friend group, but also an underground fighting force against demons that plague the world. My family is obsessed. I thought it was good the first time I watched it (original animated movies are soooo back!) but hearing the soundtrack every waking moment of my day is ruining it for me I fear.

My Little Pony: Equestria Girls - ★★★⯪ - I love this movie unironically but Flash Sentry pisses me off. Stop getting in the way of yuri.

My Little Pony: Rainbow Roadtrip - ★★★ - Are you sensing a theme? Classic G4 story of the Mane 6 saving a town from being sad or something.

My Little Pony: Rainbow Rocks - ★★★★★ - MY FAVE MLP MOVIE! Battle of the bands between the Mane 6 and the Sirens, who's music was like way better.

Elio - ★★★⯪ - Elio, a neurodivergent kid who has always felt like he's different, fixates on aliens and being abducted by them. This causes problems for his Air Force major aunt, who gave up her dream of being an astronaut to be his caretaker, when she finds out Elio succeeded in being abducted. I found it to be honestly really heartwarming, but the end was lackluster.

Just Go With It - ★★★★ - One of my fave Adam Sandler movies. In this one, Sandler plays a douchebag plastic surgeon who gets pity sex from pretending to be married. When a girl he falls for dumps him in fear of being a homewrecker, he and his receptionist (Jennifer Aniston) pretend to be in the processes of a divorce to win her back. Fake dating is for babies. Fake divorce? Peak. And also, this is all happening on a vacation to Hawaii.

Iron Jawed Angels - ★⯪- My lowest rated movie for the month... I watched it for my U.S Gov class. Have you ever seen a suffragette, and thought, "Let's write a rom-com about her?" That's what this movie tried and failed to do. Half the info about Alice Paul in this movie was fictionalized. Boring!

Weapons was an absolute masterclass, can highly recommend.

Freakier Friday was a fun throwback, but I doubt it gets people that don't already know freaky friday to the cinema.

Next up for me will probably be the new Conjouring, The long walk and One battle after another. Looking forward to those.
