Flip Phone Review

I have had a flip phone as my main phone for 9 months now, so here’s my thoughts on it.

This is my Cat S22 flip (honestly like the only option that works in the USA anymore), with the case bedazzled by me. I bought it on Ebay for around $100 and sold my phone on some trade-in site for $200, so it worked out well.

Here’s my reviews on how the phone itself functions

Speed:

It’s slower than a regular smart phone for sure, but not painfully slow, as long as you don’t have any big apps it’s been fine for me. It’s probably mostly because it uses 4g. On the internet note, it has hotspot, and the speed is also about the same but a little slower

Apps:

There’s not a lot of space so you’re kinda limited on what you can download, but you can *technically* download almost anything from the google play store. However, it’s hard to operate (and such a tiny screen) so I don’t think I could use instagram or anything on it if I tried lol. The apps I have on it are google maps, firefox, messages/signal, a qr code scanner (it doesn’t have that function), and cozi. (Also the pre-downloaded apps which take up a lot of space, I need to debloat it but my computer is a pos. It is possible if you have a working one though, and I’m sure there’s other ways I’ve yet to find)

I also have invested ($20 on a yoton I recommend) in an mp3 player so spotify doesn’t have to take up all my space

Typing:

This phone uses T9 (the button keyboard) and while you can make a keyboard pop up on the screen it’s been MORE frustrating for me so I disabled that. It took me a bit to get used to but now I really don’t think I type that much slower on it than on my laptop or ipad. 

Functions:

The most heartbreaking thing is that it doesn’t have a headphone jack. Though that makes sense because nothing does anymore.. RIP. You can get an adapter for that, but again I don’t really use it for music or anything anyway. It has bluetooth, a flashlight, basically everything android phones have.

Camera:

It’s not the best for filming things, it’s kinda slow and glitchy and the audio is bad ngl. But the pictures have a nice retro touch, like they’re not the greatest quality but that’s part of the charm yfm. I had a digicam too but it broke. Not the flip phones fault trust

Ok now for my opinions on using this thing for everything

For the most part this was a good decision, the only downside is the minor inconveniences that I was expecting already, but I feel like it’s kinda fun to use and my screentime has gone down a lot. It’s also silly to say I have a flip phone. The worst part is just feeling like you’re out of the loop when all of your friends have all kinds of social media and stuff, BUT my solution to that is just using the websites for pinterest/instagram on my laptop (you can’t really doomscroll on there). I genuinely think everyone would be happier without so much screentime, social media has so many negative effects on people. I like that we can make friends online but hey there’s spacehey for that !! I dunno, I would recommend this to everyone :>
