Fashion Doll Discovery 3: Creatable World
(I promise one day I'll actually learn to code so that this blog doesn't look like a Word document every time <3)
Mattel is popular as ever with kids and adults nowadays, but I feel like they've had a very obvious decline in quality in the past decade. In general, it seems to have learned that putting more resources into already beloved lines like Barbie, Monster High, and Polly Pockets is the easiest and safest way to sell more. It is efficient, but I personally prefer seeing something fresh and innovative. This FDD is focused on a doll line by Mattel that was both of those things and more!

Creatable World is a line of fully customizable fashion dolls that started in 2019. Each doll comes with short hair and a longer wig, plus both traditionally feminine and masculine clothes. It is: "A doll line designed to keep labels out and everyone in."
I believe clothes don't have gender, and neither should toys. I love the concept of a toy that doesn't go in the "blue aisle" nor the "pink aisle" of the store, not that either aisle should even exist. Kids deserve to play without limits, because life as a kid is already so limiting. This doll, to me, is a positive symbol, especially when girls are still told to be submissive and unseen and boys are still told that it's "gay" to like anything feminine. These toys were released 6 years ago and I somehow feel like we've progressed backwards, because the world sucks and is not Creatable at all. One day, I hope traditional gender roles become just another piece of ugly history for future generations to study.
