screw acceptance! Imma do what I want and imma be me no matter what others say! (but ofc, I'm not gonna go around hurting people)

you are fulfilled when you make you fulfilled no matter what anyone else thinks

I think it's an innate thing to want approval - personally, and other areas of life. We want to be liked; don't we? I think we've all encountered people that don't like us - for what ever reason... it would affect me when I was younger, I'd feel crushed, and wonder what it was. Now i just think, 'what ever' your loss etc. Life's knocks involuntarily gives you a thicker skin - Do or Die.
You need to be confident and self assured to let the negativity roll off you like water off a duck's back! I'm neither of those. I probably have more 'flaws' than most but what can ya do? Acceptance. There's no other choice. As Lady gaga would say, "I was born this way!" Lol

I agree, it is a very innate thing, we want validation and acceptance as part of our social need (Maslow's hierarchy of needs).
But the detrimental thing about it is that it hinders us, makes us self-conscious, shapes our actions in light of what will be approved or accepted and so it cuts at our free expression of self and art.
We all struggle with it and most of us reach a certain point of accepting ourselves, flaws and all, and find great new freedom in that. We no longer live according to our perceptions of others expectations.
We get to the place that we appreciate approval, we are thankful for approval, but we do not thrive on it, and it does not drive our actions.
Thanks for responding!
