Oh, you've never been an angel, not anything like that.
You've never been a saint, nor a devil, nor a gadfly.
You're not exactly human, either.
More human than Diogenes.

When I see you, and look into your eye, spinels look like onyx.
When I hold your hand, I feel lifted from the world.
When my cheek touches yours, when your smile glows.
I think Freiligrath wrote it best, Liszt played, I sang (we all did):
"Love, so long as love you can."

Not a cat, not a puppy, not a bunny — Not so lucky.

Not a chicken! You don't have feathers.

Not a lion, not a wolf; you're closer to a fish.
You would be a bird, if you ever wore your wings.

But you fly with something else.

You're life

And when you walk, we walk.
And when you smile, we smile.
And 82 stars together couldn't glow like you.
And 82 nights alone could only bring me to you.
And 82 worlds could exist,
and you would spend your evenings
Skipping, hopping, leaping,
Across 82 moons.

And you would spend your evenings:
Visiting 82 moons,
Visiting 82 mothers, and fathers,
Singing 82 songs,
For 82 little babies.

And you'd find the time to come to me,
If I remember I'm alive.
So I sit, with a rose in a bottle,
And, when you find me, I'll be the first:

"And had I not you — never you,
I would love you all the same.
And when you give yourself,
They will love you, all the same."
