I have a genuine question, why are small mystery town in books/movies/series/games always mostly set in Oregon of all places? For Eg.; Life Is strange, Gravity Falls, Coraline, The shining, and the X-files.
Why is that? Is it because of haunted places or folklore? I've been trying to research and haven't found a clear answer.

Hey, question for people from Oregon and or USA in gen

Twilight was actually in Washington, but I do live close to some of the filming locations in Oregon. Stephanie Meyer specifically chose Forks, Washington because it had the least annual sunlight of anywhere in the United States.
Oregon is a sparsely-populated state with vast pine forests and with many small towns, so it's incredibly easy to use your imagination and assume the weirdest things. From a Hollywood perspective, it's very convenient to film in a bordering state. A lot of what is true about Oregon is also true about West Virginia or upstate New York, but this place has a reputation for being a land of tree-huggers that those two places don't, so that might contribute to the assumption that there's more space for supernatural creatures and stuff.
Thank you for your comment! This cleared up most questions I had, so again, thanks!
