realest shi ever this is what I've been saying but no one cares, all everyone cares about is 67 mustard lebron mango and I have a feeling that people are like this because everyone hates to be alive right now so they're on the brainrot shi because it's better than thinking about everything else going on

I don't think you hate this generation, you hate this time.

At the end of the day we only have one life. lamenting over the idea of being born in a different time does nothing good for the mind. ik its easier said than done but at the end of the day all anyone can do is try to enjoy what they have. - coming from someone who also wishes they could've been born in a different time or even just a little earlier...
Wisest advice I've ever gotten from a stickman

I really love 90s and 2000s Japanese pop culture so that's what I'm gonna make my room since I'm in it all day. I already have a CD from my fav jpop band, my fav jpop singer is coming back with new CDs from her band so I'll def buy those, I HAVE LOTS of sanrio and I'm basically trying to avoid all brainrot by staying off TikTok, and doing my own thing!

Absolutely.
Everything is or must be adhering to marketing standards in 2025. Back in the days, my dad says, they only had to face social stigma and family pressure, now? Well, there's one more factor that stands against you... THE STUPID ALGORITHM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then there is censorship discourse.
The myriad of corn ads FOR ABSOLUTELY no stinking reason other than wrecking your eyesight and functioning. It's wild. Watching 12yo girls twerk and change clothes and make weird jokes in reels section is absolutely wild.
In 80s, indeed teenagers were treated like adults, but compared to 2025, I strongly feel they had more safety, they didn't know what the frick pegging and edging means and they had hobbies like cycling or painting or going to parties... Heck, even malls used to be better

I am ofc jealous of my dad who actually was a child in the 80s and lived a life in the 90s and 2000s. Was born in a transition between mid and late Gen Z (2006-07; was born in early 2007). And my dad had MySpace back then, and I think my mom did too...

You just gotta find your own wavelength man. I replaced streaming music with cassette tapes, my new phone and social media for an iphone 6 with spacehey, and I picked up skatebording. Iβm proud to be gen z, but I donβt embrace a lot of what my generation is doing.
It costs more.
I was trying to switch to flip phone this year, because doomscrolling was getting outta hand and all, and checked the prices for old school phones... Turns out, marketing has made it a mission to ruin everybody's nostalgia x

i have an iphone 6 but i cant get hobbies. ive tried EVERYTHING and i cant keep them
im literally on spacehey or minecraft all day
also i have a cd collection of over like 30,, cds r better cus they have funny designs
by π festive XØKADE π; ; Report
Exactly that's what I'm saying! I started recording my fav albums onto cassettes and bought a cheap little portable player to listen to em. Just going outside to places and community events is how you find local shit

Flip phones are expensive, but my iphone was $60 and the battery life is so sucky I literally can't spend a bunch of time on my phone now. But yeah, it's really about getting ou there and doing what you love and trying new things. I'm going skateboarding in about an hour or so.

I had to be born when Gen Z was beginning to wrap up (2009) personally if I could've chosen my birth year I'd be born in the 1980s instead.
I want nothing to do with technology or being the pseudo-alpha generation glued to iPad screens, I'm so embarrassed by that and everyone calls me a fetus and stuff.
Also I'd get to experience 2000s internet very early on, even before MySpace days, while being an adult aswell.
These days just kind of suck, very horrific year to have a sweet 16 in. Even I'm beginning to get nostalgic for 2020 which is saying something.
Sorry this is a very emo comment lmao
They should have a legal age for developing online presence. Like kids now will realise how stupidly awesome it feels to be fifteen or eighteen and get your first mobile and watch winx club edits and look for 240p yaoi on private youtube playlists and conversing daily with your favourite author on wattpad who btw lives on a whole different continent and watching TV while doing homework... It's cozy. And the less time you spend this way, the more intentional and exciting it gets..
For some reason, now all 10yo seems to have a twitter account, and those aren't even cringe... Kids have stopped having fun at being chaotic, they just wanna do numbers and watch slop

As an early 2000βs kid. I miss the days when I would get home from school, and tune in to Cartoon Network and Boomerang after homework. Head out with friends to hangout somewhere on the weekends, listening to whatever was playing on 98.3 the buzz. I agree, this era is so dumb. Now as Iβm in my 30βs I even see people older than me glued to their smartphones, and watch nothing but short form content and AI generated crap. I honestly rather be alone and have fun playing on my old game consoles, than have someone tell me that Iβm a creep for not βgetting with the timesβ. Ugh, itβs like people cant seem to comprehend that their anxiety and depression, might also be related to staying glued to their phone. But idk i guess itβs just me talking outta my ass.
About radio, it's still available and the music by large is 100x more diverse than whatever slop reels and youtube has to churn out

Remember when Taylor Swift was girly and sweet and cringe instead of... Whatever clickbait she is in 2025?

I didnβt get into Taylor swiftβs music, back then. The there was like maybe three βcountry artistsβ i listened to when she was getting very popular.

I totally understand.
As silly and petty as it probably sounds, but I think that social media ruined my life probably more than anyone else's, despite barley using it. Just the presence alone just makes me wanna totally vomit.
As time went on, people got dumber and dumber. Every day I wish I could just remove TikTok from its existence. It's the reason why YouTube shorts exists. It's the reason why Instagram reels exists. People are always just scrolling though crap that isn't even remotely entertaining.
Whoever came up with the idea of making this format of a mobile game underneath a family guy clip needs to take a look in the mirror and think about who's responsible for killing entertainment. Apparently that shit gets more attention than like ACTUAL CONTENT MADE BY CREATIVE PEOPLE. Everyone just wants to be MrBeast these days desperately trying to get some clicks. It's a shame because there are countless creators that are so unbelievably underrated. I hate what gets more attention so bad that it's not even an inside joke.
THANK YOU FOR ACTUALLY FULLY AGREEING WITH ME YOU GET IT!!!!!!!!!

Social media is the kind of ex that chases you long after you've broken up with them. Even if you've deleted Instagram and Twitter and Tiktok... Other people haven't, those others surround you like moss, and they'd be humming the slop songs from reels, laughing on misogynistic jokes because it's cool again, and inviting you to to soul churning zoom meetings... It's all too much.
The worst thing is these platforms are free, they generate revenues, government will never ban this monstrosity... I'm afraid the cigarette analogy falls short because at least cigarettes didn't have also called positive side

I feel and understand the dread but you have to fight it or else it will eat you alive. There are ways you can find smaller bands that don't sound so fake and mass produced, you can find local concerts through social media, you can even make posts asking for recommendations on Reddit. It might help to know that basically everyone in any time in history has felt like this. You know how 2010s and 2000s kids wanted to live in the 90s so bad? I bet people in 1930 wished they lived in 1900. You're not alone and this isn't a new thing either. You have to shape the life you want with your bare hands man, and I swear it's possible. Just try to fight off these negative thoughts as much as you can, don't let them get to you. Best wishes to you and every poor teen and 20 something in this comment section right now.
Precisely!

I do agree very much that the current media landscape is VERY worrying and that it sucks, but please donβt fret, thereβs a lot of cool musicians and artists out there! And some places do have very active underground and musical scenes (though it depends on the region). I could add some artist reccomendations in the comments if any of you would like to listen to something new :)
Id also not only reccomend looking into local scenes, but music from other countries! Thereβs a lot of talent out there, trust me <3
Also some people said this, but you can also try to make music for yourself or participate in ur scene and/or fandom culture! That way you can probably meet like-minded people to introduce you to cool bands and stuff + make friends :)

Some music I really like as of now
Sarah and the safe word - queer steampunk rock band. Their sound is very fun and the instrumentation is amazing
Miyashita Yuu: a Japanese cover artist, though he also makes his own music and animations. He stands out for his whispery and experimental singing style. He has also collabed with a vocaloid producer named seeecun on a rock album called Darlington. (+ he made the platinum end opening)
Lemon Demon/Neil Cicierega: geek pop/synth pop. Heβs made music since the early 2000s and keeps doing so until this day. His most recent album is spirit phone (2019), which is an absolute joy to listen to and analyze.
Heaven Pierce Her/Hakita: breakcore/metal fusion. Also yes this is the guy who is making ULTRAKILL
Sheena Ringo: Jazz fusion. Her music is so peak guys ough.
Will wood/will wood and the tapeworms: jazz rock, avant-garde shit. If you like guys screaming into a mic and jazz, this is your sign.
Toby Fox: utdr guy. Simply goated
Inabakumori: vocaloid pop rock. A master of tension and release with a minimalist aesthetic. Well-known due to Lagtrain and Lost Umbrella
IDKHOWBUTTHEYFOUNDME: the drummer from p!atd is in this band and ouughhghgghgb theyre so good. Love them
Fish in a Birdcage (some of my/friends like them)
Kikuo: VERY fun and experimental vocap. No songs of him sound the same but somehow you KNOW itβs him
Maretu: heavy metal, chip tune and techno pop vocap.
SLAVE.V-VR: vocaloid jazz rock. Again.
Weevildoing: vocaloid Dnb, experimental. Their songs stand out for how well they treat and express the topic of mental illness and trauma, such as their most recent album, The Post-Traumatic Manifesto
Yaelokre: Folk music. The creator, Keath Γsk, made this band as a way to convey stories and to honor the practice of storytelling.
Antonia Font: Spanish (Majorcan) rock band. Listen to them. Pleas.
Anyway Im leaving all of this here, if any of this interests any of you, please check them out! I know that most of these might not be your particular cup of tea, but these are just part of my personal music taste :)

Bleemie 2.0
go indie diy ir underground
stop using ttk or insta
and simply try to curate your media consumption rather than let an algorithm do it for you
my solution for music is to start using soulseek to get ur music rather than use yt or Spotify
dont bother with downloaders as the quality u get from that its absolute garbage
I recommend you get an external 1T hhd or ssd to keep ur music and other media to keep it forever
Imma try soulseek! It looks dope as hell honestly
