I mourn the 90s. It felt like peak civilisation to me and most people was so much more relaxed and happier then now. since the 2010 everything has got so much worse . all thanks to smartphones that are part of the problem, social media and corrupted government's.
there is nothing to look forwards to anymore all doom and gloom, all hope is lost, county has been sold to groups tlike the un and the wef, its like the fall of Rome all over again

You should watch the film Midnight in Paris!
I agree with you I often reminisces of the old times
but were here now we just have to be thankful for those experiences and appreciate what we have. I don't think it’s necessarily the time or system to blame but the people who built those systems and ourselves of course. Major factor as to why people lack empathy now, social skills, or genuine is the start of technology increase of technological use were we began separating from reality desensitized to what we have and where we are and appreciating whats in front of us. Us time pass as by on our screen ironically here I am we forgets what important. It definitely help to dopamine detox and go outside and participate in social activities and try bringing back physical media etc.. A privilege to have something worth looking back at and moments valuable to want to keep forever.
“Nostalgia is denial of the past” a quote this topic reminded me of. My friend I hope you felt less alone with this feelings and remember whats important to truly live by focusing on what life feels like than what it looks like. Also, like to bring up the laws and many other bad stuff during that time too we have the cons in all generations. I agree with the nostalgia physical
media, more peace or calmness there was because we all seem to be racing in time towards something. Tech gave us shortcuts and accessibility we forget the to enjoy proccess in other things and slow down. Pros and cons in life all we can do is be aware and step by step change them in how you want to live life. Good day :)

The problem's always been money...
The thing is, these companies allowed greed to cloud their judgment. Profit profit profit; we lost our way as a society when it became about views and marketing whatever slop sells, instead of selling games as complete products, telling rich stories and taking your time with them, or hand animating movies. I remember when all phones could do back in the 00's before the iPhone was basic web browsing and numberpad games, and it was some of the most fun I had with a cell phone. Game consoles and computers in the 90's and early 00's felt more alive and had transparent colored plastic cases, the menu buttons and icons on systems actually had texture instead of being flat icons. You brought your MP3 player with you on morning walks or when working out at the gym and you went and hung out outside or at the mall with your friends. Even online and local friendships felt more personal. Now everyone is "too busy", interactions with people online feel fake or parasocial sometimes, and people's happiness is constantly put on the chopping block for some rich dudes. For that reason I will always love the 90's, it was one of the last decades with a heart in it.
I also wanted to add that until 2001, the world felt a lot more peaceful as a kid. I still remember having the CD player around on those long car rides, or playing on my gameboy on road trips.

You are right some of it is down to pure greed, im a millennial born in the 80s clearly remember the 90s, ive experience pure analog to digital and of never been so miserable.
It was so new when it started everything was easier but not always better, convenience has a downside.
take audio for a sample music now is compressed you lose some of the quality and none of the artwork that comes with cassette or CD.
I will admit cassette sounds awful but vinyl It's got the sound what the artist intended and the quality is pure with so much warmth not that heartless cold stuff got now.
Even games now they look better but there is now something missing, all designed to milk you for as much money as they can with DLC's and half completed games that you pay more money for the other half of the game.
My first paycheck I bought a Nintendo 64 had so much more more fun with that system then I've had with any other. Goldeneye multiplayer that's pure heaven.
Even the Internet now is corporate and sterile is not fun anymore people's personal websites were hilarious and where a lot of creepy pastas come from, some of them will put fucked up and creepy. You just don't get that on the Internet any more what's worse government overreach and censorship.
I thought AI will kill the Internet but corrupt governments got in there first. I can't even use this site without a VPN like I used to. im in the Soviet state of the UK.
I'm glad physical media is coming back even younger generation wants to experience what it's like and fed up with the way things are going.
Even streaming services are now more expensive than what cable used to be people and now sailing the high seas.
Even though I was born in the 80s got the Internet in my late teens and early 20s unfortunately I cannot even remember what I did to entertain myself before the Internet. I know spend most my time on youtube but even that is getting censored.

What a coincidence, I'm right nearby in the northern part of Europe! I was in London just last month for 9 days while I waited for my 90 day visa free to reset for the Schengen area so I could come back to my partner, we're getting married on the 19th. England has a really pretty countryside from what I saw on my taxi ride back to the airport. No sooner had I returned to Finland on the 14th, then I found out the U.K. started cracking down on censorship and surveillance, and now my own home country has started up with the same nonsense. It was really depressing to hear about, but I'm really hoping the policy makers in both of our countries come to their senses. I'm originally from the Dallas, Texas area and I remember everything being a lot nicer back then. Now of course? It's a mess, these fossils don't even want you to own or custom mod the things you paid for with your own money, it's all getting censored. It was never about protecting kids, it's just a convenient excuse so they can monitor and control things they don't like. There will definitely be a breaking point eventually like 1984 hinted at in the book, and then the insanity will end and things will go back to normal, nothing like this ever lasts. I recently found an open source Winamp clone called Audacious that I've been enjoying, it even lets you use the Winamp skins and they rarely have any ads unlike Spotify.
