the theme... of the birthday party... is birthday party
18... it feels like a big age, though all i will be able to do is vote, as the legal age is 19 in canada. but for some reason, 18 feels associated with adulthood. i will turn 18 on september 12th, but since i moved away for university on august 30th, i had a birthday party with my friends before i left. since 18 feels like a departure from childhood, i wanted my party to be one last* celebration of childlike whimsy and silliness.
*utter lies and tomfoolery. i will be silly and whimsical until the day i die.
rate the birthday fit :-) i actually made the party hat myself. i made silly hats for all my friends, and i wish i had gotten a decent photo!
look at the BEAUTIFUL cake hadlee made me! she always gives cakes as birthday presents, and they are always phenomenal. this year she surprised me by making the insides rainbow :3
i got crayons so my friends and i could draw on the paper table runner!
make a wish :-D morgan brought facepaint for the true Childhood Birthday Party vibes and they gave me a ninja turtle mask which is why my face is purple in this pic LOL
these pics don't even show all the fun stuff we did! i got a piñata, we played pin the tail on the unicorn, and we made crude jokes about the party blowers i bought.
i asked everyone to come in fun, whimsical outfits, AND THEY PARTIALLY DELIVERED!!!! though of course nobody can match my tutu and fairy wings. look at ari's drawing of us in our party fits!
from left to right: hadlee, arianna, me, morgan, and cleo! tragically our dear friend leila was unable to come :( but she made me a beautiful princess wand! and sent a present in the mail!
speaking of presents...
OMG everybody got me such cool stuff. they know me SO WELL and it makes me so happy. i feel so so loved by them, and i love them all too, more than words can say.
my favourites from each person were: fluffy TMNT pyjama pants from cleo, a book about feminism and marxism from morgan (she also got me trader joe's pb cups so it might be a tie), and the book 'i who have never known men' from ari. hadlee made me the cake but she also WEAVED a TMNT keychain out of friendship bracelet string because she is a goddess and i would die for her.
guys... i just love my friends so much. i want to shout and scream to the world how much i love them. i hope everybody experiences this kind of friendship in their lives!!!!!!
this party was supposed to be the last time i saw them before moving (though we did get breakfast and run errands together the next day), BUT. they showed up to surprise me at the airport! i totally knew it was happening because they are not slick, but i could've cried from how much i love them. they made my 18th birthday party so special. they are so special to me forever.
creds to @ianrkives on tumblr for the dividers!
