The "clanker" meme has never sat right with me. Before you come at me, I am extremely anti-AI and I would never defend it. To me, however, the way people are using the word "clanker," as well as other related words, feels... wrong. Racist, even. This may be a bit of a hot take, but I think that some (NOT ALL) of the people who are using words like "clanker" are just using them as a replacement for actual racist slurs that they really want to say. The whole "clanker" thing reminds me of how some neurotypical people use the words "regarded" and "restarted" as replacements for the r slur. It also reminds me of how some straight people use the word "zesty" as a replacement for the f slur or the word "gay." I really don't care if this blog post makes me sound "too woke." I stand by what I just said.

I don't think it ain't really that deep, unlike "regarded" that's targeted towards neurodivergent people, clanker is specifically towards robots, AI, ect. Now people making derivations of "Clanker" that sound similar to racial slurs is indeed an issue

nah dude you're 100% right. there's a weird desire to like... emulate racism in a way thats "funny" but it plays off of the real experiences of people of colour and especially the Black community when most of the people making the jokes are white.... it definitely doesn't sit well with me. white people wanna be racist soooo badly :/

Yeah. I thought it was funny until a guy in a cop cosplay made jokes about "George droid" and "oh your cpu is overheating?? don't give me that". and then I lost all faith in humanity

8 times outta 10 ppl who say clanker, restarted, regarded, zesty, etc- already say actual slurs and just think the use of roundabout ways of saying slurs is funnier sometimes. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know where it comes from. That doesn't change the fact that people have taken the word and turned it into something more nefarious. Also, I agree with the last part of your reply. That's why I specifically mentioned that people have been using other words *like* "clanker" as a way of saying racial slurs without actually saying racial slurs.

Yeah, its meant to resemble racism. A lot of people find it funny including me, but many understandably dont and thats what feeds into it being funny to us in the first place
