i am a hardcore leftist- an anarchist if you will.
currently in class we are learning about the political spectrum and i am confused as to how communism is more of a leftist thing.
i fully understand that true communism means a classless society in which everybody is equal, with the government having money instead of private business owners. yet i feel as if governmental control is something not what the leftist wants. communism tends to lead to totalitarianism and that is the nature of humans, yet if a country was truly communist without being totalitarian, how would that be considered leftist? anarchy is radically left and communism is more centrally left, but what makes it left apart from equality? or is that all it is? coming from a radical leftist, i feel as if governmental control is a more right wing thing. a defining feature of fascism is a totalitarian government, and we all know that fascism is the furthest right you can go. in a communist society, there is no opposing party which is a key feature of totalitarianism. overall i am confused if equality is the only feature as to why communism is considered leftist.
if anyone has some information for me, im begging for it. i am really confused and need help.

There are more things that make communism leftist:
1)the obvious hate against capitalism
leftism starts at anti-capitalism,which is one of the biggest aspects of communism.Communism seeks to destroy capitalism for it is oppresive and exploitative towardds workers and minorities in general, communism seeks to liberate minorities and workers from the opression of the bourgeoisie(the rich),and that is a really leftist thing.
2)democracy
I know this is gonna sound stupid but bear with me.Communism is actually democratic, since in a communist/socialist society, the proletariat(workers) have total control over the government and the state, therefore making it democratic.(Ik ppl think of totalitarianism when they hear "communism",but that is just CIA propaganda.)As to your stance on "no opposition",it is true that there isn't any opposition in socialism/communism,but this is to prevent any counter-revolutionary activity, plus repression is ussualy done by the workers, since as I said before, they hold state and government power.
3)Pro-LGBT and other stuff
Communism generally dislikes ANY form of discrimination,as stopping oppression is quite literally essential to communism.
hope this helped

There is no government in a "true communist society".
you've probably heard this before but a "communist society" is a stateless, classless and moneyless society. Usually what common examples of countries do, is having the goal of a "communist vanguard party" running the government is to run a socialist system (and disintegrate capitalism in the process) and have the state eventually 'wither away' as the workers further control the means of production independently to reach full communism. This has never been successfully achieved in modern society as of yet, and there are many other different ideas from different people on achieving a "communist society".
You should try reading Karl Marx for a start, it's called Marxism after all...
