Jar Of Fireflies 🫙🦟
It is like a jar of starlight
The jar of fireflies
Upon my windowsill
I watch them flutter
I watch them flitter
Do they dance
Or do they thrash
Do they know what I have done
Trapped them
Kept them
And for what
I cannot answer
Amusement or appreciation
Of beauty
Or abject cruelty
I cannot say
But that which I know is true
As I watch hypnotized
Even mesmerized
By the glow
Of my fireflies
Each day in darkness
Each night in light
The fireflies fly
The fireflies dance
They ebb
They flow
And keep me kept
In my precious trance
The curious faces
Or are they jealous
Nay concerned
Passing by my open window
Where I sit framed
In billowing satin
They stop they pause
They stand and gasp
And then they quickly go
For they see the jar
Of death and decay
Long dead they lie
The fireflies
But yet in my eyes reflected
Is the flickering glow
