Worrying that you look like a poser is lame

Ive been watching the “real or fake weird girl” discourse go down which… ew. Eughh. Why do we give a fuck? I get the issue with lame ass trend hoppers appropriating alternative culture, but also they’re trend hoppers! So it’s gonna last for two weeks TOPS and then they’ll go do smth else! And I say this as someone who used to be a weird girl (I’m a boy now, I’m still weird, that’s all that changed)

But that’s not the point. It’s super wack (super duper uber fucking wack) that there are ppl who are like “errmmmm unless you liked Creepypastas and Septiplier and My Little Pony and shit in middle school and/or now then you’re not a real Weird Girl™️” and then ppl responding with “I’m a real weird girl I swear I’m not like those performative ppl 😭” is SO WACK

Why do you care? Why do you care if people think you’re weird? Or not weird enough? Or a fucking poser or “performative”? These people don’t know you! If they did, they’d know you’re not a poser if you’re not one!

I call myself emo, a little loser emo boy, but I dont wear always black always eyeliner I do listen to glass beach sometimes instead of Pierce The Veil, my taste is all over the place. If someone were to tell me “well then you’re not a real emo” I wouldn’t give a flying fuck! Do it. Test me in the comments. I’m not gonna lose sleep over that, I know what I am. I know how I feel.  Have we lost sight of the fact, too, that you’re allowed to like more than one genre of things? That if you enjoy mainstream media, or you like different music along with the music of a subculture, or you don’t know super obscure information about every member of every band you like, that doesnt inherently make you a poser? Or am I wrong? 😑 

Anyway I’m just ranting I’m not trying to start a debate or anything but sheesh ppl piss me off. This is not “in defense of trendhoppers and posers” but more “literally you should not care what people who don’t know think about you stop freaking out about whether you seem niche enough cuz that’s super lame bro and also kinda poser-y” mic drop boom irony (cuz that poser-y comment was a joke ofc)
