Opinions on the Alien movies

I just watched all the Alien movies (Except for the Alien vs. Predator ones) and I love this franchise so much. I did a little movie marathon because of the new show that came out on Hulu, Alien: Earth.

Obviously the original 4 are peak. I adored Sigourney Weaver and they kept each movie interesting while keeping a similar formula. The xenomorphs were a little silly looking in the first 2, but honestly I prefer practical effects over CGI any day. They are absolutely iconic. Resurrection was also probably the most horrifying out of the 4, in my opinion, mostly because of the scene with all the failed cloning attempts :[ It was also really sad seeing Ridley cry over having to kill her "baby", even if it was trying to kill everybody.

I was a little skeptical of Prometheus and Covenant at first, because a lot of times when they make prequals of something years later they end up pretty bad, but I LOVED them. Not only did they look absolutely gorgeous, but I did like the added gore. They did a good job of keeping a balance between the gore and the story too. I also really liked David. Despite him being the "bad guy" I actually felt really bad for him and even understood him in a way. Maybe it's because I'm an artist. David and Walter were definitely my favorite characters. Covenant was my favorite out of the 2, mostly because we get to see the iconic xenomorphs and facehuggers, and also because we got to see David being so proud of his babies lol. I also loved how it explored David's' obsession with creation as well as the synthetic lifeforms. Only downside was Sigourney Weaver not being in them, but the movies were so good that they made up for her absence.

Romulus was good, but not nearly as good as the other movies. They toned down the gore again, which was something I had enjoyed in Prometheus and Covenant, and there wasn't really enough xenomorph action for my tastes. The main focus was on Andy and Rain, and while I liked Andy a lot, I just couldn't get attached to Rain. I did like the added focus on The Company being greedy assholes who don't really care who dies, which was missing from Prometheus and Covenant (I understand why, it was just nice to see again). While Romulus was personally a let down on the horror side of things (Until the ending) I did enjoy how it showed just how greedy The Company really was. What really saved the movie though was the ending. The ending was so awesome and horrific.

I honestly love the themes explored in these movies. The horrors of pregnancy, the thrill and obsession with creation of life, taking scientific discovery way to far, how just because we can do something doesn't mean we should, corporate greed, and just the explorations of humanity as a whole. It's all very intriguing and was beautifully done. Honestly, while I would say Covenant is my favorite, the entire franchise really does hold a place in my heart.

I'm both incredibly excited to watch the show and also a little nervous. I really hope it's as good as the movies are.

Anyways, this was really just me needed to get my many thoughts on these movies out of my head and somewhere else. I have a lot more thoughts up there, but I just can't put them into words. Feels free to let me know what Y'all thought of this franchise, I like seeing what other people think about things :]
