monster high g3 basic core dolls opinions

to finish off this saga that i have of reviewing the core & core refresh dolls i decided to review the core dolls! the ghouls first dolls since why not? i can always review the other dolls in the faboolous friends line but im just gonna stick with the main 5 ghouls! so, let's get into it!

as per usual, we'll be starting with the one and only: draculaura! this doll is really cute and i think it's a perfect look for g3 draculaura. we know that she is a vampire who is also a witch and i think that you can tell this by looking at her design since she has several vampire elements in her design like the bat wings in her headband and the bowtie. theres more soft and brighter colors in this design but she still has black in her design like in her shorts, bowtie, stockings and part of her hair. although this very clearly isn't g1 draculaura, this design is still giving off drac and when this doll was released, i was a fan of her!

her hair now being split dye is a nice way to make draculaura more 'modern' and her not having her iconic pigtails may be a bit strange- but i think it fits this design. her headband is super cute and it gets extra points for having a black heart with bat wings. her makeup is pretty neutral, not much to comment on it.

her clothes are super cute and stylish. i love how her shorts have white hearts with fangs on them, her sleeves are super nice along with her shirt. its not shown in this image i chose but the doll also comes with a bat cape which i think is a really pretty addition! (it also reminds me of haunt couture and the 2015 collector draculaura!) her stockings are mesh and simple, same with her shoes, although she doesn't wear boots i still think the heels are a nice touch.

overall, i think this was a nice transition to g3 and from looking at this doll you can tell this is draculaura but just rebooted to fit a new generation. i give this doll a 10/10!

clawdeen in g3 gets a lot of hate since to many people, she seems to be the one that had a really big change to her design and to her character. personally, i think this doll has its ups and downs but what i have to say about this doll is mostly positive!

one thing that is a bit iffy on me would be her hair, instead of it being brown its not a blondish color with purple streaks, although i think the hair color is actually kinda cute and it doesn't throw off the doll or ruin it, it's a big change and i honestly prefer with darker hair. the hairstyle though is honestly really cute, her curls are adorable and fit her really well! i feel that maybe her earrings could have worked better if they were gold though? her eye color really stands out and i find them to be beautiful, her makeup is also simple but works well and it compliments her super well.

her gold accessories also compliment her purple and black outfit and they stand out but not too much. her outfit is probably one of my favorite parts of this doll, i think it's a really cute outfit and i could even see g1 clawdeen rocking it. the long sleeved black shirt with the purple patterns that are clawmarks and moons to show off the fact that she is a werewolf is a super nice touch and once again, i think this fits her super well! her lighter purple overalls are also really cute, it being animal print is also something i like as g1 clawdeen also wore animal print in some of her dolls so it's not super different from her! her shoes are also pretty simple but also work with the design, i also noticed this recently but the bottom of her shoes kinda look like sharp teeth which i think is a nice touch!

in my opinion, this doll isn't really that bad and she is actually super cute and a good doll, which is why i'll give this doll a 9.5/10.

this frankie doll, i don't believe i have much to say about them but i'll still say a few words about what i think about this doll!

honestly, i think this doll- just like draculaura, is a really good transition from g1 frankie to this new generation. frankie adopts a more blue into their design like in their hair, skin, clothes, etc etc which the og frankie was more green and monochromatic (not in all dolls ofc) but i think that its really cute especially since some of her g1 dolls also had some blue in them, so its not too out of character or a super big difference to me. frankie still keeps a somewhat similar style, just more modernized.

their hair remains black and white but now has some blue mixed in there, they have some cute lightning bolt hair clips which is a cute addition to them. their eyeshadow is this neon green which is actually really nice and works well, it might be a bold choice but i frankie seems to pull it off nice! the bubblegum pink lips though doesn't seem to work that well and stands out.

they have a very school-like, preppy style to them that is also very stiched on just like in g1. i actually really enjoy those types of themes in characters so i have no complains about their outfits and think that it's perfect for frankie! their prostetic leg having some designs that they made themselves is honestly a really cute addition. theres not much to say about their shoes, it works well with the rest of the design (and i love the soft pink!)

like i said, i don't have a lot to say about this doll since i think it's fine as it is and have no real complaints about it. which is why i give this doll a 10/10!

the previous dolls have all been really positive, this one... not so much. like ive said before, i don't hate g3 lagoona since she is really cute and has some stellar dolls! this one though, not exactly my favorite.

starting off, her hair is now a rainbow of colors such as purple, blue and blonde. in some of her dolls the purple and blue isn't really an issue and can actually be really cute! in this doll though, the blonde is tucked away in the back and you can't really see it all that well which i think is a downside- it just makes it look like she dyed her hair all the colors she could. i think her makeup and face looks really cute, especially her eyelashes!

moving on to her outfit though... ooough. her hoodie is a mess, i like the black seahorse image on it but the rest of it doesn't really work. the hood (?) is blue, the rest of it is pink and sure, she is still sporty looking just like in g1 but the outfit just does NOT work. moving onto the shorts its also just rainbow pants in a pattern, i will give it some positive points because i do like the frills on the side which look like gills. her shoes are also something that i just do not like, they're very bright and just not it. i actually enjoy the swimsuit that comes with the doll since i think it works better with her design and wished that it wasn't just an optional accessory and it was actually incorporated in the outfit (similar to g1 basic lagoonas doll).

when this doll was released, i did not like this doll and i'm still not a fan of it. i can live with this doll existing because at least we got core refresh lagoona which was a huge upgrade from this doll! but this doll is just... not one of my favorites. it gets a 3/10 from me.

onto the last doll! we have the cleo de nile. and this doll i always seem to find myself very 50/50 on it. she has some qualities that i like but i just can't seem to form an opinion on this doll, so lets get into it!

starting off, her hair is something im a fan of! it now has blue with black and the gold tinsel and it's really cute in my opinion. her headband is also something that looks really nice, same with her earrings! her makeup is a big favorite and i cannot get over how gorgeous her eyes look (something ill never stop loving!).

her outfit is this dress which several patterns which honestly look good, especially since the sleeves are bandages- which are a really good addition to her design as we all know cleo rocked the bandaged look as she is a mummy. her belt is also something i love about her designs, especially since its long and reaches up to her legs. her boots though seem a bit strange to me? the random redish orange seem like a random thing they decided to add but that seems to be my only complaint. she does have a jacket that comes with her doll which is also bandaged and has some straps which also give off the look that they're bandages.

the doll herself, is fine, i think she has a really nice look to her and i love the new rendition of cleo but for some reason i find myself indifferent to this doll which i don't exactly know why? i think positvely of this doll which is why it's a tad confusing, but still, i give her a 8/10!

these dolls started off the reboot of monster high and i think that they were a perfect start. by all means, they aren't perfect and the design team has improved with the ghouls and their looks. but for being one of the first dolls, i think they did well (except lagoona. i rlly do NOT like that doll)! i think after taking a closer look at these dolls i have found some new appreciation for them! they're really cute dolls and although i wouldn't own most of them, i can still appreciate them for what they are!

that also concludes me reviewing the core basic dolls! i started with the latest core refresh, then the previous and now the basics! of course, i've only really reviewed the main five ghouls and i haven't covered the other dolls that are included in the lines so if anyone is interested then let me know! as i'd love to review the other dolls since i think it could be fun! i still have some lines that i want to review so be on the lookout for those blogs that will come hopefully soon :)!! please feel free to leave any other lines you'd like to see my opinions on (side note: i would also like to review g1 lines!! i don't exclusively do g3 lines!!) and don't be afraid to leave your personal opinions on these dolls! i'd love to hear what you thought about these dolls!
