Atheists get on my nerves sometimes

(DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RELIGIOUS)

I was scrolling Instagram reels (bad, I know), and I come across a video by a guy i follow who goes by "thelukeymc". He does bodybuilding content, makes cute videos with his girlfriend, and talks about his Godzilla collection. He just so happens to be Christian and made a short little video talking about the bible and encouraging unsure people to give it a shot. Virtually harmless.

A couple minutes later, I see a guy stitched his video and starts being a total asshole. He comes off so smug saying shit like "you're totally brainwashed and your way of thing is bad" (paraphrasing).

The comments on the post are even worse, basically calling him stupid for believing god and following the teachings of the bible. Some guy said "This guy gives off weird vibes. Someone should check his hard drives". BRO WHAT?!

They're acting like he's some twisted fuckin cult leader, trying to mind control the youth.

This kind of attitude towards religion has kinda rubbed me the wrong way for quite a while now. The "I'm smarter than you!" "God's not real, and you're dumb for thinking that" kind of attitude is just a mean-spirited way of thinking and does nothing but perpetuate a cycle of hatred.

We need to kinder towards one another and not shame or belittle others simply due to their beliefs (as long as their beliefs don't actively harm others).

What do you think?

Most atheists don't speak much of their atheism, because there isn't much to speak about. Those who do speak of it do so because they believe the world would be better if it were atheist. Since they have nothing to defend (they do not have the burden of proof), they are necessarily on the offensive. Most Internet communities that are pro-atheism (or anti-theist) are cesspools, largely due to the influence of the "new atheism" movement in the early 2000s. The founders of this movement were all insufferable, so anti-theists today carry on this tradition.

Of course, not all atheists are like this. The overused counter-example is Alex O'Connor, who is an atheist philosophy Youtuber who is fairly open-minded and charitable.
