the fact that I have to think "oh, I was born here, I'm a legal citizen, I should be okay" every time I read the news is heartbreaking, demoralizing, and one of many red-flags signifying the US's descent towards fascism. in a country where not everyone is safe, no one is safe.

WW2 is taught around the globe, for good reason. not only did it affect people around the globe, but it stands as a powerful and inescapable warning: ignorance is the greatest enemy of all. turning a blind eye may seem at first glance a small in-action, but when you keep turning your back to your surroundings you miss the chance to save yourself before it is to late. and how can you save yourself? by helping those who need it.
the people united have more power than anyone can fathom, so they try and divide us. they spread racist, sexist, classist, and homophobic ideals to try and turn the masses against each other, because they know the people together are strong. when we let our neighbors get dragged away by ice without protest, we are accomplices to the vary powers trying to destroy us. do not let them divide us- don't fall victim to their hateful words. empathy is the greatest power of all right now, empathy and camaraderie, love and support.

No, I do not love my country. But I love the people in it, and I want for them the best. so I will talk and try to understand every point of view, I will reach out and I will laugh with all those I can, I will love, love, love, in a time where kindness is being taught as a weakness and our greatest strengths are looked upon as tactics for evil.
