a TADC confession

the latest episode was not it

i really liked the first few eps! the animation was stellar and i wanted to see where theyd go with the concept

then they started getting... corny. people were a lot more emotionally aware than a flawed person should be.

i thought 2 myself 'well, i still like it otherwise! i'll stick with it for now!'

and then

"YOU are my PLAYTHINGS!"

holy. cornball.

i think a part of it stems from it, at the end of the day, is a youtube webseries. its not gonna have 20-episode seasons, so they have to rush pacing

and that comes at a HUGE loss to character arcs

see, EVERY character has an arc, and i think they were established well. their flaws, how those flaws affect their personality, and how other people deal with that person's flaw

but then they realized they were going 2 slow with it, and had to start rushing

now ragatha is giving monologues abt her low self esteem and her fears of being abandoned, kinger is playing therapist, and jax is being so obvious about his avoidant attachment that it doesnt feel genuine.

Gangle, zooble, and pomni are alright, honestly. i like that pomnis settling in, i like that zooble and gangle are getting closer as gangle goes thru her emotional biz

another thing i feel caused that is that the creators are scared of their characters being unlikable. and thats pathetic.

at the beginning of the character arc, the character has a flaw that prevents them from succeeding. it might just be skill level, it might drive others away, it might make them blind to the last piece of the puzzle. and because of that, they are not perfect. honestly they may even be a horrible person. but when ur writing a character, that character has to be flawed but still ENJOYABLE for whatever reason.

the writing makes it seem like the creators dont want u to misunderstand the characters at all, like theyre on their knees going 'D-DONT HATE THEM!! SEE, THEYRE GONNA CHANGE!! THEYLL CHANGE I PROMISEEEE!!"

when you keep forcefeeding all this emotional drama in a few short minutes, its very easy to see where its going. and what does that crammed emotional drama taste like? CORNY and CHEESY!!!

instead of people, the characters feel like how conservatives think liberals talk to each other. im kind of worried for how corny the next ep will be.

of course i want indie animation to succeed, but im not going to pretend i like something when i dont.

ending on a positive note, i got around to watching The Gaslight District, and i LOVE IT!! for 30min and so much plot, it handles pacing and exposition great. not to mention the stylized animation, which unlike vivziepop shows, dont feel overanimated or monochromatic to the point of nausea

i also watched the Knights of Guinevere trailer, and i love what i see so far. I loved The Owl House and it feels like in this show, Terrace gets to b her full self without disney breathing down her neck

i hope that where TADC failed, those two shows succeed
