Okay first off im not just saying this because i think mp3 format is cool and retro or because i miss ipods, although those are both good reasons, theres more to this issue.
Everybody knows that spotify as well as a lot of other streaming services (but lets face it, mostly spotify) are really shitty. AI songs, which i don't think i have to explain how thats bad. also having to pay to skip, also i heard you have to pay to view lyrics more than a few times??? im not sure how true that is but still, and in general just making their app so fucking cumbersome to use that you HAVE to buy premium if you want to use basic features. and by paying for premium you're just supporting them even more. Spotify is lame!!! And anyways, mp3 is free (depending on how you obtain it) and easy to get. And it also can be stored on your phone, or ipod if you have one, which is really cool. And compared to even physical media, its really convenient. (no hate to physical media, I just wish more people would try to embrace it. Seems to be becoming a thing of the past unfortunately, though so are mp3 players I guess) There's also more variety, you can get unreleased and bootleg mp3s that are otherwise not available anywhere else, which matters a lot to me because i get to have lots of techno sets i can't find anywhere else ^_^
But also, id kill to own a grey ipod classic.

yea and spotify is probably way worse than people think ;-;
(allegedly) some of the fake ai artists on spotify are made by spotify and then because they are owned by spotify, they can make the algorithm push them on playlists and stuff. Obviously this is to get more money so spotify can keep the money from ads and subscriptions. Also fun fact, apparently spotify owns some sort of ai music lab in France !! AND Daniel Ek (the ceo and co founder of spotify) partially funded and spend 600 MILLION FUCKING EUROS into ai military defence company helsing!!!!
So yea the spotify premium subscription goes towards that. Props to massive attack for leaving spotify because everyone should and I hope that doesn't need much of an explanation because if that's what spotify is doing, pirating mp3, flac, or any other files sounds angelic.
I'd like to add that any of this isn't new, spotify hired François Pachet (who specializes in ai music and leads the ai music lab in France) in 2017. I found people on reddit discussing about ai songs on spotifys own playlists back from 2022.
And yes not every other streaming service is like this (and yea artists should get payed, which also spotify isn't really doing), however spotify wasn't always like this sooo if we move to another platform will they do the same?
I'll js stick to pirating mp3 files too lol and fuck spotify.
Just seeing this now, it got lost in my notifications but that's so fucked up. Yet another reason to ditch spotify... I always felt like they had something to do with that

I miss the time when I needed to download the song to listen to it or watch the video clip on VEVO youtube. The video clips used to be something worth to watch. And what about the time we used to write the song's names with _ like: Pump_it_-_Black_eyed_pead_.mp3... What a time to be alive!
