Theres this girl i know who claims to be alternative.
Its fine if you dress that way, go wear what you want but if you're claiming to be in a subculture you really dont know anything about. Just dont then.
She posted a screenshot of a message of where her friend called her emo.
Her next texts were :
"IM NOT FUCKING EMO, IM ALT"
"I DONT HAVE SIDE BANGS"
"I DONT WEAR SKINNY JEANS"
"I DONT FUCKING CUT MYSELF"
...Im not even gonna lie, its actually kinda cringe when you're so pressed by someone who claimed you the wrong subculture and you make it out of your way to say you're something else. If that makes any sense.
Having side bangs & wearing skinny jeans doesn't automatically make you emo. The self harming part, what the fuck lmao?? Its really just embarrassing.
Like no. You arent "alt" for having a septum piercing, wearing baggy clothes, and listening to tokio hotel. She posts things on Instagram like photos of alternative people and the caption would be like "i aim for this look" or "i want these piercings". Okay well i guess we missed the whole point of what alternative really means. Shes really just in it for the looks.

The thing she said about not cutting herself i find disrespectful, the way someone dresses has NOTHING to do with S/H. also sayong "IM NOT EMO IM ALT!!" thats like saying "I DONT LIKE THIS SAUCE I LIKE SAUCE" or something like that. Really bad example ik but idk how rlse to describe it
Exactly! As an alt person who used to SH, it's not connected. Not all emo and alt ppl are cutters, and not all cutters are alt/emo. Like tf??? It's literally so fucked up people say that. Like bro WHAT????

Alternative is both a subgenre of the nu-goth and emo people’s who have recently started to appear (think e-boys, e-girls, stuff like that) and also the umbrella term for any fashion alternative to mainstream like goth, punk, scene, emo, gyaru, etc. right? Correct me if I’m wrong

This post reminds very much about that back in the day I remember I saw a lot people posting about what style and such to aim for and many of them basically typed stuff like "Hmm.. I kinda like emo but I don't like the cutting part"
Never really understood that part as far as I know.. it's not like a ritual to become alt in some way. I used to get triggered by this when I was young but now I'm more like chill since it doesn't really effect me. I just let people believe whatever they want.
