The subject is pretty straight forward- i dont think people care 4 music anymore. People only seem to care about who listens to the most niche artists or whatever. Anyway, news flash!! Just because you started listening to someone before they were popular doesnt make you cool or any better than the person who started listening yesterday. People dont want to share music, or listen to it for the thrill of it, or for the enjoyment, they purely get off on the fact that "oH tHIs aRtisT Is NiCHE sO im coOl iF i lISten To tHem!!!".
There are better reasons to listen to niche/underrated artists other than wanting to seem cool, for example just supporting them. I listen to niche bands not because theyre niche- i listen to them because they usually only managed to release one album/EP their whole career which i find easier to manage. Now the reason they might have had the opportunity to release so little music was because they never got the popularity they deserved, hence they lost money rather than gained and were forced to stop creating. Now if assholes who gatekeep music because its "cool and niche" keep gatekeeping small artists, old or new, you can imagine whats gonna happen.
I just think music is something that should totally be shared no matter the circumstance. I can make a few blogs reccomending some underrated artists i know!! Just wanna know if anyone is actually gonna read that~

real asf if I was an artist and my "fans" were like ""GATEKEEP!! DON'T LET THE NORMIES HEAR HIM!!! LET'S KEEP BEING SO UNIQUE DIFFERENT AND SPECIAL!!!!"" i'd be so pissed off
i wouldn't be pursuing huge fame or a lot of money just for myself, but it'd be great to have more people listen to me and making me able to keep going

ignore people who listen to music performatively, and listen to music for the love of it. it ultimately doesn't matter if 'people don't care for music anymore' as long as YOU are happy with the music YOU listen to! listen to what makes you happy and ignore everyone else!
if anyone wants a list of artists and bands i love that happen to be niche but aren't like, trendy-niche (more just seldom talked about), here:
leroy / c0ncernn
KNOWER / Louis Cole / Genevieve Artadi / Clown Core
ta1lsd0ll
Vulfpeck
six impala / underscores

ppl who do the opposite are so annoying too
when kpop stans complain about artists not making the music they want, someone will recommend a lesser popular group that makes music like that, and then the other person will be like “theyre unknown im not listening to them.” dont complain if youre not gonna try find solutions bruh

i legit hate the mindset people have about music rn. people wanna be different so bad they put down anyone who likes the popular stuff. like rn with Gorillaz getting popular all of these people are acting like its a niche band and people who like their popular songs are fake fans WHAT!? I'm a long time Gorillaz fan, I listened to every single album the whole way through (thanks to this goat on Soundcloud that uploaded them all) and even then most of my favorite songs are their popular songs. THEY ARE POPULAR FOR A REASON (most of the time)!!
It's so hard to make friends who like the same music now too cause I'm always worried if they are gonna give me shit cause my favorite album or song is their most popular or because I recently got into the band. stupid stupid stuff man...

bragging about listening to niche artists is just so performative and annoying. whenever i get to bring up niche artists i get so happy and try to advertise them, but what i see is most people gatekeeping shit like blood on the dance floor or bratt sinclaire style songs, literally every 2000s person i knew grew up listening to that stuff on the cool radios
yeah gatekeeping is just really stupid but i dont think it will ever go away unfortunately, i dont know why some people just have this irrational fear of their favorite artists becoming popular even if it would only do them good-

A lot of people brag about listening to "underground" artists. I'm the kind who went out exploring music from other countries. I'm not such a hipster that I think or talk a lot about stuff from very small and very poor countries, but I'm blown away by the talent that I've heard from Latin America and parts of Europe.
I think the American music industry has been in a rut for so long because they simply refuse to open their minds to stuff not in English or go by what actually worked in the past.
JAWS!!
yesss make a blog with some cool niche artistssss
