does being in love make you happy?

i’ve come to realise that i tend to think that people with partners are happier than people without

but i don’t genuinely believe that

i usually look at someone who’s upset and think ‘well, you’re in a relationship, so life can’t be all bad’

but the reality is i don’t know what’s happening in their life

i don’t even know if their relationship is as perfect as it looks on the outside

being in love isn't all that matters

i suppose in my mind, it is.

i’m unsure if that’s because of the world around me raising me to believe that romance is this big magical thing

or just how my stupid head works

romance is a beautiful thing

but romance ≠ love

and love is in music, it’s in art, nature, books, skills, hobbies, family, friends

love is everywhere if you look close enough

it’s in relationships, yes, but people tend to prioritise that love over everything else

what makes romantic love so special compared to any other kind?

i guess it’s all to do with ideology of what being in love is like

the idea of someone who completely understands you inside and out

someone who is a mirror image to your every want and need

i too have fallen for this ideology, as would anyone capable of feeling attraction

yet if people prioritise romantic love so much, why has the idea of relationships been so very distorted in this generation?

these days, everything is centred around lust, lack of communication and lack of commitment.

what a type A people want is a something temporary and exhilarating

which can be fun, but confused for something more 80% of the time

which is where type B people come in

those who crave affection and to be loved so desperately they find it in type A people, who won’t give them the time of day

this is the main dilemma in what is expected in romance these days

there are people who are types A and B, or even C, or maybe they don’t know what they want

this only complicates things further

but love isn’t complicated at all, not any kind

it’s just that people are, and no one seems to understand that
