I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE SAY THIS LIKE NOO IT’S NOT BE QUIET YOU DONT KNOW ANYTHING
Most people in the 80s wore tucked in collared shirt (probably has to be lightly multicolored) or blouse with like light beige color pants, jeans, leather pants, dress pants with a brown belt and some pair of brown, white, or black shoes. Maybe add a red varsity jacket or brown leather jacket too and some accessories. 80s fashion was pretty androgynous!
Yes, people in the 80s loved colors & funky patterns. But it was mainly dull colors that is easy to style, not extremely bright colors; looking like some strobe lights at a club. They mainly dressed something that’s out of normal fashion, something that’s funky & weird but looks cool as hell. The 80s looked like that too, don’t forget that! Everybody was wacky & weird in the 80s! Fashion and music was so huge & important during the 80s and it still is! Music genres such as dance-pop, euro dance, R&B, smooth jazz, adult contemporary, synthpop, new wave, rock (including glam rock), & metal (thrash & glam) were music genres that were popular in the 1980s! There was bands/artists such as Sade, Beastie Boys, Run-D.M.C, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, MC Hammer, Big Daddy Kane, Depeche Mode, Soft Cell, U2, The Clash, New Order, Joy Division, Bauhaus, Gary Numan, Blondie, Tears For Fears, Van Halen, Michael Jackson, Wham!, Duran Duran, The Cure, The Smiths, Metallica, Pet Shop Boys, Ozzy Osbourne, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Poison, David Bowie, Adam Ant, Billy Idol, Nine Inch Nails, Slayer, Madonna, Talking Heads, Yaz, XTC, & The Psychedelic Furs were really popular during the 80s.
Anyways, back to the topic of 80s fashion.
Here are some examples of 80s fashion:
Mens 80s fashion
(I feel like David Bowie is a great example of 80s fashion, same goes with John Taylor of Duran Duran.)
(This one is more 70s but whatever)
80s women fashion
(These photos are from Mallory Heart, they have such great outfit examples of 80s fashion and especially goth fashion! One of my hugest inspirations!)
(This is 80s goth)
I’m just so tired of people stereotyping the 80s thinking it was all neon, jumpsuits, flare pants, and eyestraining loud & bright colors, everything over the top and all that. It’s sooo annoying to see it man, I have a special interest in the 80s and it kind of somewhat drives me crazy to just see that stereotypical 80s fashion or even hear about it.
I somewhat dress like this. I’m trying my best to get more clothes that are from the 80s or have an 80s style to it, it takes time to achieve a style like this. :-)
“Where can you find clothes like this?” Go thrifting or look on Ebay, second hand stores/websites are such great places to find stuff from the 80s! Or maybe even ask your parents for their old clothes! D.I.Y is also important too!! Also garage sales might work too, I never been to a garage sale myself but I’m sure you would find something vintage there.
Please do your research about the 80s and what was so important during the 80s and how influential it was before stereotyping and making false statements/claims.
Thank you for listening to my blog about 80s fashion (and a bit of music), have an excellent day/night. <3

You can thank the media stereotypes (think the cheeky 80s movies and I LOVE THE 80s! nostalgia products) for that. This happens to every decade, some people think the 70s was just bell bottoms and disco shit too.
Reminds me of that meme that's like "what people think the 80s were: (neon) vs what they actually were: (brown mcdonalds plate + 70s furniture in a bunch of houses)"... and people forget that not every country had the same 80s fashion too LMFAO not everyone could afford the yuppie neon clothes.
