My dumbphone collection!! (≧ᗜ≦)

Nokia 1208 - I've replaced a newer T9 model I've had for years with this, just for shits and giggles. Quick disclaimer to never follow my example, like ever; personally, I've always felt a distaste towards modern dumbphones. This is a cool phone, if you share my shallow associations with cool. Genuinely a no-bullshit and no-fun-allowed phone with the exact height as of a Tech Deck.

All-plastic, has no camera, the battery cover slides neatly. It charges with the classic Nokia pin-shaped charger. The buttons are made of rubber, they're a tiny bit hard to press. For a screen this small, there are 20(?) theme slots to customise, with loads of wallpapers and color-and-vividness adjustments.

It doesn't hold storage, cue pre-installed ringtones, but it still has the custom usb and headphone ports, idk for what O.o It's not like anyone's gonna bump it to the ball fall (not ball jump!) the semi-tetris (the balls in the block separate on the ground) or the snake game haha

The Nokia 1208 is one of the best-selling phones of all time! I was surprised to find out, I thought the 6230 scored higher.

Nokia E72 - OH-SO-PRE-CIOUS

Mine came cheap with non-functioning microUSB and a wonky back plate (I fixed that with textile plaster strips). I removed the disgusting rubber-plastic material covering the USB and the microSD slot. Ewwwww, 2000s, why? It gets greasy, then breaks into dusty pieces... Moving on, Nokia pin-charger.

Holy shit the keyboard is so creamy! The OS is quite slow, but comes with a lot of pre-installed apps. Overall, I've found the phone to be highly customisable, to the point of mild confusion. One thing I'm not too happy with is how the ON button feels, since the 'lock keypad' function can only be accessed from there. I love the optical trackpad (you can swipe on it!) AND THE CAMERA. A LOT. If you take a photo of a textbook, you can read the pages' contents, all taken with a camera from 2009! 

Apps I've installed: kakuro, Opera Mini, tetris, the semi-tetris ball game (my sister loved it :DDDD every time she cleared, a javasriptc error popped up, but she pressed ok and kept playing?????)

(Oddly enough, you can run Java Discord on it? But only if you're logged in on a computer, I think... then what's the point?)

HTC ChaCha - loved tinkering with this one

The entire rooting process got me glued to xda-forums back then. I've chosen a custom ROM that kept the android version and Sense UI, and freed up internal storage space (overall size got to 150 megabytes). Oh yeah, about that. Internal storage gets filled up with app data, and if you delete them, you still can't nullify it. If anyone guessed 'needs to be factory restored all the time', they're correct. I've done this when trying multiple games (*cough* Angry Birds) and office suites, and some other times.

Small touchscreen, microUSB, plastic buttons are hard to press (looking at you, A and P).

The battery's not the strongest, and B!TCH I'LL NEVER FORGIVE YOU FOR WIPING THE ENTIRE PARTITON OF MY PERFECTLY FINE MICROSD CARD!!!!!!!!

Apps I've installed: Kingsoft Office, Battery Booster (Android 2.3 doesn't have multitasking, so here I can close all apps I want, also displays battery percentage in the top bar), Unicode table (why? the keyboard has multiple languages, but it doesn't actually map them - translation: all layouts are English layouts), torch (it has a flash but no in-built torch app), podcast catcher, klondike solitaire, Opera, Colornote, retro clock widget

I might compose my text in a confusing way, but I don't mean for this to be a rant. Finding out the workings of old tech isn't 100% successful developments. I think I'm engrossing myself in this hobby out of nostalgia, but not purely, since I've never got to actually experience using these in my younger years. All those old features now being unusable makes me a bit sad; I don't think we've got outstandingly better alternatives with all the enshittification going on.
